Well I had my engagement shoot, had a lovely time and started to relax getting the pics done (I hate getting my picture done) Then I got to see the pictures... I have a bad opinion on myself anyway but I look so pale, and that is with a colourful dress on. How will I look on the day with a white/ivory dress on? Should I be worried that it is the photographer's skills, or do I just need different makeup?? has anyone else had this problem??? I want to have nice photos on the day!!

I am extremely pale anyway so have also been worrying about this! However, I think that ivory dresses add warmth to the skin naturally, whereas colour can take over and make you look more pale than you actually are. Also, a good photographer should be able to change the contrast in pictures during editing to make you look less pale. If you are really worried, have a word with a make-up artist, they are used to making people look less pale on a daily basis xxx

As Linzi-jo says, your make-up artist will do your make-up a little heavier than you'd normally wear it - if you look back to when William and Kate got married, her make-up was very heavy on the TV camera's but looked fab on the pictures. If in doubt add a touch more blush.

Don't be tempted with the fake tan though, it will be too much of a contrast against the dress.

I have Lupus and can not go in the sun, I have to wear complete sun block even in winter, my skin is extremely pale, I did toy with the idea of having a spray tan, but thought against any type of false tanning as I don't want it to rub off on my dress or anything else. I don't like heavy make-up but I know on the wedding day I'll have to have it a bit heavier than normal so I look half decent on the photo's. x

Make-up for photo's normally is heavier then day to day make up, you normally have a layer of foundation then lay of power then anther layer of foundation a good make-up artist will do it and you won't feel like you got that much make-up,

I am usually as pale as they come - ivory makeup looked orange on me however because we're having the blessing in Spain I didn't want to look sickly next to my husband and his family, who are all quite tanned or capable of tanning quickly and i was also worried about burning and looking red and sore on the day so I decided that instead of running the risk of having a spray tan and rubbing orange onto my diamond white dress - I opted for sunbed tanning. It takes six weeks to build up a base tan depending on your skin type - I was worried about all the scary c word stories and all that malarky but for a few weeks of tanning following expert advice, I figure I couldn't possibly harm my skin that much and it's been worth it.

Don't fake tan, orange is not a good look. The last thing you want is to end up like Ann Hathoway in that film about brides. Oompah-Lompah is not a good bridal style.

Also, you will contrast less starkly against a white/ivory dress. I'm so pasty I might as well be a vampire (not the sparkly emo type) and when I tried on some dresses I looked normal coloured.

Also don't wear foundation with SPF in- it reflects the light and you appear paler in photos. Although your photographer shouldn't be using flash anyway, your guests might.
I use a summer skin moisturiser for a light body tan (not sure I can say the name, but hint- "because you're worth it" lol). They have a good one for pale skins to make you look a little healthier!

Everyone keeps worrying about fake tan rubbing off on to their dresses.

If it's done professionally & at least 2 days b4 the tan would of settled into their skin tone giving them a natural glow/look instead of looking orange & fake.

I'm having the Zen Tan spray done, the girl did a patch test right down my arm (just so I'd see what the final look would be) & to be honest I ended up with a tan that looked like I'd been on holiday & got a brown tan plus the tan smelt of Chocolate which was just gorgeous!!

I'm extremely pale naturally, so having a st tropez spray tan. I feel more confident when I have a spray tan and my skin looks flawless compared to usual. I dont think the tan will rub off on my dress either and if it does it would be hardly noticeable. As long as its a good quality tan then you'll be fine. I'm not going to sleep in the tan overnight like they tell you to do, I'm just going to let it develop for 4 hours and then wash off. I've done this a couple of times and then tan is more natural for me this way xx

I am tempted but in the past I havent tanned on the sun beds really....just got more freckles and a redness to my skin rather than brown. I burn really easily. If I go on holiday I dont start tanning till the second week and even then its only a very light tan. I've got sun damage to my chest area and had spider veins lasered in the past. So think i'm best going down the spray tan route really xx

If you go on a sun bed you should always use there tanning moisturisers as help your tan along and doesnt reflect the UV rays. Salons normally sell them for a couple quid xx

Sazzell23 - Totally agree with u!! I got mine b4 & the girl said that because it is 2 days b4 and not on the day it will have time to settle in to my own skin tone plus with the rubbing off on the dress - the only part that MIGHT rub is underneath the boob area where it is the tightest part, other than that the skin will be washed loads by then and already stained with the tan!!

KellyN29 - I swear to god hun, it smells fab, Xen tan has got shear butter (& other stuff) in it so not to try out the skin so u dont even need to put lotion on the next day because it lasts for ages :-)

I'm a photographer and joined to help where I can. Not to advertise. By the way I need to know how to put a signature on here.

Have a chat with your photographer. You can ask them to change the white balance to make the overall tone warmer. I've had a similar experience with a real pasty bride at her request. A skilled pro can do this fairly easily and then build the rest of the editing process around it. Just near in mind it make take a bit longer for you to get your photographs back.

Changing the white balance to make you look a warmer skin tone affects all the image. So don't stands next to someone who has gone over board on the tan haha or that will look awkward.

Check the ingredients in your foundation. If it contains titanium dioxide then that reacts with the flash on a camera and makes your face look whiter on photos.
If you are having your make up done by a professional then they should be aware of this but best check to be on the safeside if you are naturally pale as you dont want to look washed out on the day.
I ended up doing mine myself as my make up artist went the other way and made me look orange!!!!! xxx

A decent, photographer should now how to arrange/light your shots to make your skin look best. You don't need to fake tan or slather on the make up just ask photographers of their experience with pale skin and how best they approach it.

I'm very pale, never go in the sun, that's how I look. The last things want for my wedding photos is pictures of me looking all tanned because that is not how I look. My foundation will be light and a match to my skin tone, I'm just going to make sure the photographer makes the best he can of this feature.

Be proud of you gorgeous porcelain skin!

found a new photographer as this one didn't get back to be, she is very excited about the day and I'm sure will be helpful. I really don't want to look orange and if I get rid of my spot scars i will be proud of my skin. I'm glad to hear photographers can help too and its not just down to me to change what I naturally look like

My mum and sister usually say that you need to wear sunglasses to hide the glare from my legs, but I changed my contraceptive pill last year and now am more sensitive to the sun so I tan after a few hours rather than 2 weeks of 8 hours a day.

You may be able to get a light tan or fake tan that will make all the difference, however you do want to look like yourself! Your H2B clearly thinks you're gorgeous just as you are, so I wouldn't change too much! Go for natural make-up, this will make you more relaxed on the day too, if you feel like you! You could always get some of your shots in black and white too! Then pale is only a good thing!

I thought you said you looked pale though? So was the real concern spot scars? If so that creates a lot more work than the odd bit of colour correcting.

I hope you and this new photographer know exactly where you both stand. Otherwise you will be disappointed when you get the photographs back.

its the pale bit that bothers me most, the spot scars are hidden if I wear the right foundation and they are getting better. my shock was how pale I looked on the photos I had taken. I am having a good chat to the new photographer today.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but have you thought that it might be your foundation that is the problem?

"Mineral makeup, along with some non-mineral makeup, contain titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide. These ingredients reflect light, making you look paler, especially in pictures taken with flash. UV filters in sunscreen work the same way and also reflect or deflect light."

Going on a sun bed or fake tan wont help at all, if you then put mineral foundation on top. One of my friends used to look like a ghost in ALL her photos, but her arms etc all looked her normal colour/tanned, But only her face would be white, so she looked into it, and found out it was the ingredient in the make up causing the main problem.

Hope that helps, if someone has already mentioned it sorry, but didn't want o read through it all lol. xx
