I have had the sad diagnosis of hearing loss 2 days ago and have to have hearing aids on both sides. While it is still sinking in, I have realised that my plan for wedding hair has totally gone out of the window. You see, as a child I had hearing aids and during my teens I didn't need them anymore, I have been hearing aid free for 10 years (its been declining for the last two) and the loss of both my hearing and being free of them is hitting me hard. I have been freaking out over them being obvious in wedding photos and being seen by everyone. I am at the whim of the NHS and they tend to give out only behind the ear hearing aids, I can't afford to go private and get the inner ear ones.
I was planning to wear my hair up, especcially as I have a beautiful crystal bead tiara but now if I do that my hearing aids will be visible :( I have seen some inspiring hearing aid jewellry but the only person I have found who does hearing aid jewellry does nothing like I would want, she does do special requests but she is a young teen in the USA. I don't know if she can work with diamond and silver or white gold.
Do you ladies have any idea about how I can bling them up for the big day? Do you know of any jewellry/jewellry makers I could try? (I have searched Etsy and the girl I previously mentioned is the only one doing any hearing aid jewellry) Or nice hairstyles I could try out? I cannot have my hair covering my ears as it could block the microphone and I can't not wear them otherwise I would struggle to hear and do my vows :(
I have very long hair and it reaches down to my bellybutton.
I am glad to have the hearing aids because I have been struggling badly with my lessened hearing but the idea of them sticking out in the wedding photos in a bad way really upsets me, thats why I am so keen to try and find jewellery. I could try an ear cuff but I don't know if I could wear them comfortably and look good with them.
I am so upset about this, I have been struggling with my mental health anyway and this has been an extra knock. I am sorry to have posted such a long post :(
Thank you for any help ladies <3 Sophie xx

Hi Sophie. Hope your ok. Must have been quite a shock and understand tis taking time to sink in. I don't know anyone specific you could try but if I was in your position I would go to a jewellers and discuss it with them and see what they can do. I'm sure someone at the jewellery quarter in Birmingham could help you
You will look beautiful on your wedding day regardless!
Sending love!

I know you say you can't afford the inner ear ones but have you been in to spec savers recently? In the last few years they have really come down in price and they also do a monthly payments option.
I've no idea on how to cover them with jewellery but maybe talk to your hairdresser as well. If you have a good hairdresser they are miracle workers and maybe able to hide them even in an up do!

I hope you are right about me looking beautiful on the day EmilyV17. Thank you for the suggestion, I didn't think about going to a jeweller, is the Jewellers Quarter in Birmingham a special place to go for unique things? Thank you for the love <3

There are lots of independent jewellers there so you can ask a whole bunch of people. A lot of the places there will do custom jewellery, I got a necklace I designed made there once. I'm sure if you speak to some people then they will be able to help. Not sure where you're from but there's bound to be jewellers around you who you could ask.

Yes I have been to Specsavers Faye, I went there before my ENT/Audiology appointment and saw them for a hearing test a few weeks ago. The inner ear ones are a good for hundred and with me having my money tied up in other things I am not in a position to afford them and do the monthly payments. Even the lady I saw in Specsavers said they were expensive.
I hope to customise my hearing aid moulds to have glitter in them, I hope they will allow me and if I can have a white/silver microphone/battery bit I would be happier about them. Behind the Ear aids are more powerful and their batteries last longer than the inner ear ones too.
What sucks is my hairdresser will be in the Czech Republic and I will be meeting them for the first time there unless my wedding planner can give me a website/contact address to talk to them prior to the wedding, I will have to teach myself more Czech! Thank you for the suggestions though :)

Why don't you have a trial with a UK hairdresser and take loads of pics of how you want it and send it to her before the day so you know you can have your hair in a style so you will be comfortable and she knows in advance what you want. Will cost you for the UK trial but just have it done for a special occasion.. birthday or party etc so its not wasted. x

You said you found the girl on 3tsy who does hearing aid jewellery but wasn't sure if she could do what you want. I think its still worth asking her and getting a quote because at least then you have a starting point to go to another jeweller with if it does turn out to be too much. It might be that she can come up with something you are happy with and in budget. X

What about a half up, half down do and have the front curled or something so your aids aren't visible?
CommentAuthorMrsC2bee
Agree with all the ladies, it's worth asking about the inner ear ones see how they price up and you can still have your hair however you want as hearing is just part of you like glasses ect. You should be proud how you look and embrace it :) shouldn't matter if they are on show as your beautiful with or without them. Get a few hair styles done and see what you feel most comfortable with x

Sorry to read about your feeling conscious about how you'll look on your wedding day. I'm certain you will look amazing whether you have behind the ear or inner ear ones.
You could still have an up do but maybe with some strands coming down at the front. Also speak to your photographer about the best angles to avoid them showing up too much in the photos.
Will you be wearing a veil?

I think I will have a hair trial before I go and send or print the pictures, thank you for the suggestion Emily.
I did email her but I haven't heard back yet Kirsty, if she can do what I am thinking of like style, design ect I will pay her whatever she wants lol :) Somewhere I did have a suggestion of going to a Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham which would be a jaunt but from my parents house it would be do-able in a day so I think I may be able to go next month.
Thank you for all your comments ladies and saying I will be beautiful regardless, I feel so bad, I hope I will feel better about them closer to the time and can have the updo that I really want, if not I will try different half up/down ones like you have all said about. I am wearing a veil but I am not sure if I can pin it for the ceremony at the sides though I know I could for afterwards InDreamland :)

Hey, my LO has hearing aids and to be honest you can barely see them. What they do nowadays is great. They are so small!!
He has blue battery bits and England 3 lions on the inner bit
Front on, you can't see them
Side view
I'm sure if you choose silver or white battery sections, they will blend in lovely.
I understand your concern though as LO was a bit sceptical too but hey, if it helps you, people will except it and probably won't even notice.
If you are really really concerned regarding your wedding photos, take them out temporarily until they have done
LO does this when he's in the play centres, pops them out and puts them back in after xx

Thank you for sharing the pictures! Your son is so cute EmmiLou! :)
I will have to post when I get them and show you all, I hope that the glitter with a white/silver bit will look nice. I feel a lot more positive about it now, I did look at inner ear aids but they are not right for my loss and are around £3000 each! It would be them or the wedding!
Love is more important :) Thank you all for your support, It means a lot <3

Thank you CQ..... He's cute but has a baaaaad attitude at the mo. I'm putting it down to age and praying he snaps out of it!!
£3k is a lot of money to be honest and yes it's important but not enough to spend that much for me anyway.....
You will make the right choice I'm sure xx

I think you might be worrying over something small that seems really huge as you have dreamed about your look for so long. Your family and friends won't notice your hearing aid as they are so used to you wearing them. In fact even any of you OH guest will propbably fail to notice them as they get swept up in the romance of the day and admire how beautiful you both look and how in love yo both are. I think you are more self concious because you will know they are there. if it does really bother you try hair ups that are maybe looser styles so that the hair skims the tops of your ears rather than covers them. also with a tiara and veil there will be so much going on nobody will be looking at your ears xx
CommentAuthorWundatigga
I can only concur with all the previous suggestions - definitely look at getting them customised/jewelry for them if that is what will make you feel more confident about them but at the end of the day it is such a minor thing in comparison to the love your OH has for you

Just another thought on this - would one of those ear cuffs (I think thats what they are called) be any good to hide them a bit more? X
