My best friend is paying for me to have my hair done on my wedding day. We were going to use a good friend of his, but he has just been horrified at the price - £250.00 to do my hair on the day, plus extra for a trial session at the salon, including a cut, dye and play around to decide on the style. Does that sound like a lot to people?? I have no idea of prices as my mum's friend usually does my hair once a year for £20 lol.
I have told my friend I will ask around to get an idea of general prices and to see if there are any hairdressers recommended by anyone I know. Thing is, I get married in about 5 weeks so I am running out of time. HELP!! Can anyone recommend someone in the Nottingham area???

EDITED.......thread has been put in correct category ..Mods

I can't recommend anyone either but thats a huge amount of money. Why not get your usual hairdresser to cut and colour your hair so that the person he knows just needs to style it on the day

The problem is, I have very long hair and hate having it cut lol. My mum's friend "trims" my hair about once a year and occasionally dyes it red for me. I think I have been to a proper hairdresser about 5 times in my life so have no idea who to use and what cost is reasonable lol. I'm really stuck with what to do........ I want to go with a recommended hairdresser as the whole thing terrifies me! I think it's a long hair thing as other people I know with long hair also hate having it cut!

Update - I am thinking of asking my mum's friend to cut and dye my hair before the wedding to save money and then get someone to come to my mum's on the day to style it. BUT I really really need some advice:

    1) how near to the wedding do I get my hair dyed (to avoid my roots showing lol) and what if I don't like the colour and it needs doing again???

    2) I STILL haven't found anyone in Nottingham to do my hair on the day - aaagggggghhhhh, also how much should I expect to pay for someone to come to my mum's on a Sunday?

    3) how long should I allow to have my hair done, and do I get my hair done before my makeup and nails?

    Can you tell I'm starting to panic? Lol :-}

I would say a week or so if you are using a new dye so you have time to do over if you don't like it, and as early as the day before if it's the same dye you usually use and you know you already like it! Keeping fresh colour out of the sun, using colour protect treatments when you wash it and not blow drying unless you have to will keep it looking vibrant for longer!

I would look around, ask friends you know things like that, ring around hairdressers etc... I'm not sure as to call-out costs but it stands to reason it would be more expensive for them to come to you, specially on a Sunday!

As for timings, I have no idea... as close to leaving as possible!

Katkin, where in nottingham do you live i can recommend Topknot on victoria embankment at trent bridge, that is where i normally have my hair done, but for the wedding day on saturday im going to Dudleys hair and beauty in Bulwell for a massive pamper day tomorrow and hair and make up on sat, let me know if u need anymore ideas....but to me the price you have been quoted sounds mega expensive x x x

Fantastic, thank you so much ataraxia and Rach for your advice xxx

Rach, I live in Carlton but work in West Bridgford so I know Topknot very well. Also, Bulwell isn't that far away for me either. I hope you have a lovely pamper day, it sounds wonderful. I hope you have a perfect wedding day too - not long to go for you now :-) xxx

Dudleys in Bulwell is open on a sunday and does normal prices so if you go there say by taxi that would still be loads less expensive x x

I've got someone who comes highly reccomended from another bride that got married not so long back and she is £30 per person for hair and make up. She is based in Hinckley but said she is willing to travel further if there are enough people having it done. For that price it might be worth asking if she would do it if you have enough bridesmaids and fuel. It would still work out cheaper.

she be here in next hour so will ask x i think shes told my sister she will do mine and 2 bridesmaids for 50 on day (30 mine 10 each bm) but she lives like 2 streets away so might be more for travel

and dont worry am the same hate having hair cut prob do it once every 6 months and thats by my mum and i still dont trust her with it.... but that maybe due to one year i asked for a trim and she took about 6 inch off cuz she wanted me to have short hair like my sis but couldnt get away with cutting it as short... i was so mad with her
this is the first time i let someone touch my hair thats not family but she came recommended by my sister

Thank you fruity_pops, I hope your trial went well today :-)
I can't believe your mum did that to your hair, I would have been furious! My mum used to cut my hair years ago and I hated it lol. Perhaps that's why I hate having my hair done too! I get it trimmed about once a year by my mum's friend who I trust but nobody else goes near it :-)

Ok, well I am going to see my mum's friend with her on Monday to get my hair cut and possibly dyed - still can't decide what colour to go lol. Hopefully we will also have a play and look at different style ideas and take some photos. Still don't have anyone to do my hair on the day though :-(

I had my hair trial today and she was wonderful! I loved it. She's charging £15 per person and she did the trial for free. I can give you her details if you want? She lives in NG5, her name is June and she's a friend of a friend. I'd totally recommend her.

Thank you for the contact suedonum :-)

Actually, I have just had the best news ever tonight - my mum's friend Rob (who has cut and dyed my hair many times in the past - and is the only person I have ever trusted to do my hair!), has offered to do my hair on the day of my wedding!!! I am sooooo happy, excited and relieved all rolled into one lol. My mum and I went round tonight to get my hair cut and to look at possible hair colours and styles. I thought he was just going to do the pre wedding stuff, so when he offered to come round on the day I was overwhelmed. I can't thank him enough and can't stop grinning from ear to ear lol.

On the negative side, he took one look at my hair and said it was in terrible condition!! It is very brittle and full of split ends. He gave it a trim tonight and cut off a couple of inches at the bottom to neaten it up, but said it needs another 5-6 inches taken off to improve it :-(
He said he will leave the length for my wedding day so he can style it the way I want, but it will need to be done again soon after. I am gutted but know he's right :-(

That's great news Katkin I'm thrilled for you! It occurred to me that I shouldn't have posted her contact details online without checking with her so I decided to delete them and pm you instead but clearly you are all sorted now!

He sounds good too, attention to detail and honesty rather than just saying what you want to hear! I'm sure your hair is going to look gorgeous and congrats on getting it sorted in time - phew! :)

Thank you anyway for your help suedonum - if Rob hadn't offered to do my hair I would have contacted your hairdresser.
Lol, yeah he always speaks the truth, even if it is a bit blunt ;-) Although I was gutted I knew he was right. I had been ignoring the state my hair was in as I hate getting it cut! It already looks a lot better and I am soooooo relieved I will have someone I trust doing my hair on my wedding day :-) He will be coming over to my mum's 1st thing on my wedding day and having croissants and bucks fizz with us!
