help! my h2b is in the army based in germany. he was told he would be out for good in 3 weeks (instread of september, due to problems at home). now hes just been told that he might be needed in canada n wouldnt be back in time for the wedding (apparantly his flight back would be the day of the wedding!). its not for definite but we find out if it is on wednesday. they promised he'd be out of germany the beginin of february n then changed their minds. what am i going to do? they have said to him they will give him his driving licence back if hes needed in canada...funny, they wouldnt help he with that when he first lost it! surely theres something we can do! i am so stressed and want to cry. everythings ready and booked and paid for wedding!

is the welfare officer the same as a padre? i had been speaking to the padre around xmas time and he was advisin the army to post h2b in enland so hes closer to his family. i was thinking of getting in touch with him. i am so tempted to tell my h2b to just go awol!! x

The Padre should be able to tell you who the Welfare Officer is. (Have you been to any presentations about separation/deployments etc- its the officer who does those)

nope, not been to anything like that at all. i dont understand how the army works really ive just listened to whatever my h2b tells me and thats it. only think padre has said to me is that he thinks its best if my h2b is nearer to home with us. which is why he was meant to be out early this april.
what could the welfare officer do for us?

Basically give you advice. Normally I would send your question ove to my H2B but unfortunately hes away at the mo...

The welfare officer basically makes sure that the soliders and their families are OK and helps to sort out problems like this one.

I know this is a really old post but i just wondered if it worked out ok for you in the end? My fiance is in the army and has a posting back to the UK next month so will be due to go to Afghanistan again within the next couple of years but he told me that once he has told them the date we are getting married they would not make him go at that time? I worry that the army would keep him for something because of the amount of times his leave has been cancelled last minute!

Hi Nikki message from my HQ officer husband- if leave is booked for something like that it would take a REAL emergency for them to cancel it (as in all leave cancelled). However get wedding insurance stating your fiances job and a leave pass for that date now.

Oh and Jelly is now married!!

Hi hun, my H2B is in army and is due to leave the recruitment team and go back into a regular unit next month. he has been told he will be going to canada at some point this year but we dont know when yet or for how long. But he says that they will not make him go away if he is due to get married. I don't know exactly how much time they will give him before hand tho in order to plan it? We think he's going april-july which im not too happy with as it leaves me to organise everything on my own (weddign is in august) He is going to speak to them as soon as he joins the troop to get the date in and find out what he's entitled to. I advise you and your H2B to do that as soon as he gets back to UK. They won't send him to afghan if they are aware hes getting married x
