    Hi Guys,

Not been on here for a couple of months. I lost my job, and it was my wages that were paying for our wedding. We have paid deposit for the church, and my dress is paid for and is to be picked up this week. because of the job loss it makes makes it nigh on impossible to have the wedding we wanted originally, but I got thinking that the day itself isnt about the amount of money you spend or what decorations yo have on the table or the theme etc its about the bride and groom and the vows they say to each other. Anyway I have suggested to my OH keeping our date, and reducing the numbers, nd just booking out a restaurant for during the day then have a big party on the night and just tittivate the room up a bit. But he said no, he would rather wait til we can do it 'properly' What is properly??. So pissed off and annoyed and upset, hes now just said its just a bit of paper and we can wait a few years for a bit of paper. I still dont have a job, but hes starting uni as a mature student next month and im waiting to hear back to see if ive got a part time place at college.

Oh sweetie I'm sorry. It's so frustrating when people don't get what it means. It sounds like you need to sit down and explain to him exactly why it's so important to you to be his wife, and why that's more important than the big day. Maybe even write it down.

There is a very small chance we might be able to have it next year still as I have just started a claim for an accident I had a couple of weeks ago, but dont want to rely on that too much just in case it doesnt pan out they way my solicitor wants it to! I am also thinking about selling my dress (it just cost me 850 quid brand new) to put a deposit down on a different venue maybe for 2016. What do people think? x

I wouldn't make any rash decisions hun, sit down and talk it through with h2b. Perhaps look at what means the most to both of you with regards to the wedding and what you could do without, then do your sums and take it from there.

Sorry to hear that you lost the job . Maybe your hubby to be wants you to wait and have the big wedding that's he thinks you want and deserve and by having small wedding that you are missing out . I would wait a little while then talk to him again . Xx

we didnt get insurance as the only thing we had paid for or put deposits on was our rings, (I got my deposit back for that and transferred it to his ring and paid it all off so we now have his wedding ring) church and my dress, the reception venue is the local rugby club where OH plays, they are like family there so havent had to put a deposit down, but Ive told them that if they get an enquiry for our date and someone has the deposit there and then to pay then just to take it as I dont want them hanging on and losing out if we arent able to stick to the date x

Defo try and sit down with your H2B and discuss everything and at least then you will know when to aim for wedding if it's next year or 5 years x

Sorry to hear about your situation! At the end of the day, the most important thing is the bride and groom and the vows you say to each other! I think an intimate, more low-key wedding sounds fab and you would have an amazing day.. but on the other hand, I also get where your H2B is coming from. We could have probably got married a while ago if we didn't want our day to be so perfect i.e. everything we have dreamed of and everything we don't want to compromise on. We will have been engaged 4 and a half years by the time we get married which would have given us the time to save up for everything we want. Without sounding harsh, just because you have had a change of heart doesn't mean your H2B should automatically have a change of heart too. It's important that he respects your feelings but you also need to do the same back.

You definitely need to sit down with each other and discuss it in depth. Hope you work something out :) xx

It really depends on what means most to each of you, to be husband and wife sooner rather than later, or to have a big formal wedding. I would be miffed if H2B said it was just a bit of paper. Also it depends on whether you want kids, whether you want that to happen after you are married, and how old you are. I've had to remind my H2B when we've talked about the timescale for upsizing to a house where we would have room for children that I will be 32 when we marry, and I only have a few years to have children. I take it family can't help out?

We have had a tak about it, we have compromised on numbers, taking it from 50 to 38 during the day, which means that instead of having all the decorations in a function room, we can hire a restaurant at the rugby club and just put a few tea lights etc on the table, and take off the table wine. So its still going ahead with a few compromises :) xx
