Quick Q about "she who must not be named"'s (SWMNBN) dresses - how is the structure/corsetry???
Tbh most designers make their dresses in China, probably with the same fabrics as SWMNBN but I honestly would pay that much more for a well structured dress..
Just seen this online & gasped (h2b gave me a funny look from across the room lol) - but it's been discontinued! :( If I go dress hunting & find these styles suit me I'm sorely tempted to ask SWMNBN to make it... Xx

I love that dress Ecofreak. Couldn't see myself in it though, and it doesn't look as good in all white/ivory I think! There are pics out there of real brides wearing it and it is stunning!
Wow EcoFreak that dress is breath-taking - it is on the bay for £50 starting bid by a bride who had it made x

Mine is a lace up corset and the structure is much the same as the original I tried on in the store. It feels the same to me but I am no expert, certainly feels sturdy and like a proper corset.

I have a lace dress and I love the lace on it, have a look in my album. Its not the same lace as the original but to me it has a more vintage look and they have done their best to replicate the original. They even added lace flower details that the orignal has. I genuinely love the copy more than the original now. The photos dont do it justice at all. Bad lighting etc but its stunning. Mine is lace all over aswell. I was really worried about ordering it but I couldnt be happier with it. For the price I paid, I couldnt have got it made better for the same or less anywhere. To me it was all about the fact I just didnt have the money to buy the original xxxxxxx

As long as youve got a bit of a bum you can pull it off lol! I never thought it suit me, I thought Id look silly but the lady in the shop suggested it and I instantly knew it was what I wanted when I put it on. Its called Essence of Australia D1181. You should go and try some dresses in a shop and you'll know straight away :-) xxxxxxxxx
CommentAuthorAnastasia
Hmm.. I'm not sure about the bum part lol I am athletic so always see myself as having a boys figure! But yes I should definitely go & try some on, I just don't like the idea of going in a wedding shop on my own! Is it this year? Will I find it in a shop? x

I love it. I don't suit fancy stuff, so it's my dream dress, and the shape is very flattering. I'm hoping to slim down a bit, mainly for Mexico honeymoon. I'm not getting married until 5th oct, so I'm planning on ordering beginning of June. I'm going to get some detachable straps made to cover a large tattoo on my shoulder. I normally love it, but a big black panther kind of ruins a bridal look lol xx
CommentAuthorRockabilly chick
Thank you mrs mac :-) Im over the moon with it :-)
I dont think its this year, I tried it on in July last year. I dont really know how the seasons work or anything like that. But you should be able to find something similar to try on. Sometimes the slimmer you are the better these dresses look. BUt to be completely honest I had a whole different idea of what I wanted before I tried on dresses. I thought I'd go for an A line with some pretty detail on the hip maybe but A line made me look bigger. Ive got a bit of an hour glass figure (well biggish boobs and massive bum) and I thought this dress would make me fatter but its really flattering. Its weird cos sometimes what you think wont suit you really does :-) What about your bridesmaids? Could you not make a day of it? I had a cheese and wine party after dress shopping with my bridesmaids :-)

CommentAuthorEcoFreak
RC that's encouraging to hear! My figure is much the same (39.5"-27"-40") so hopefully these fit&flare/mermaid styles will suit me in reality cos I adore them! Also encouraging to hear about the dress structure :)
I contacted a woman near me on preloved who happened to be selling one, but she sold it yesterday :( All the other sites I've found it mentioned are also from women looking to try/buy it.. Whyyyy would Maggie Sottero discontinue it when it's clearly rather popular?! Xx

CommentAuthorLittleMissBossy
I am so confused. I found a chinese rip off for well knownbrands of pin-up dresses and I am so tempted to order a dress and customise this one instead of the one I have. But if it's a **** dress then it's just a waste of money...

Which site was it? Put it on my wall and Ill tell you if Ive heard of it :-) There are about 3 or 4 sites that Ive heard very good reviews about
xxxxxxxxxxx
CommentAuthorLittleMissBossy
The reviews on ebay are good but I found reviews in vintage forums and they are really bad and also making me feel very unethical thinking about ordering it :-)
And it's flipping Chinese New Year so I can't ask the seller questions about customising because they are gone :-)

I know its not the same but Ive got 2 wiggle dresses from china and they are both really nice on. Mine is pretty much a straight copy of a designer dress but the lady who must not be named will add dresses to her website and is quite happy to customise so she could be an option....
If the reviews on the vintage forums arent too good Id be wary too. I only found 1 bad review for the lady I used and it was a really silly complaint so I was pretty sure she was a safe option.

CommentAuthorLittleMissBossy
There are 2 sellers I am interested in - the one I think I will go for I have just put on my wall.
The other one just copies a whole load of famous pin-up brands and named herself after it aswell - Queen of Holloway which is an amalgamation of Queen of Heartz and Vivian of Holloway. Even her webiste is quite blatantly copied from the first.

Hi ladies, I've got a bit of a dilemma.
I've found a dress that is absolutely gorgeous, yet I can't find any dress shop that stocks it. The designer is American I think, and the dress itself is a knee length one, when most of the collection is full length. Therefore it seems that most of the bridal shops only stock the full length traditional dresses. However, I have found a copy of it on one of these sites. I really wanted to be able to try on the original design so I could check that the style suited me and so I would know what size to order it in, but for the reasons I've just mentioned this hasn't been possible. I emailed the site I found the copy on to ask if it would be possible to return it if the style didn't suit. Unfortunately, their response wasn't very helpful. Now, the copy is only £70 or so, so if I buy it and it doesn't suit, I could always sell it on and hope that I make the money back, but I would much prefer to return it. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any words of advice??
Thank you!! :-) xx
CommentAuthorLegoWife
You might be able to return it if it's a standard size and not made to measure?

CommentAuthorjoey86
Hollhollholly - no it's a standard size (luckily!), that's what made me think that it might be possible. They basically said that if I wanted to return the item, it would be at the discretion of their customer service staff. I've got my eye on 2 other dresses from high street shops (although trying to find one of them in the actual shop is proving rather difficult!), which I want to try on before I take the plunge with this one :-)

This info is amazing - have MUCH more confidence in buying a dress online now! Still new to all this though, so can someone confirm - are all the links on Annette's wall got a good rep? And is she who can't be named meant to be the best? Or just someone who isn't from China?
CommentAuthorEcoFreak
Yes I think all the links have had good reviews - I'm sure she'd make a not if there was one to avoid :) She who must not be named is the english contact for a dress company based in china, I think the dresses still come from abroad but you have someone here you can email/show pics etc :) I haven't heard anything bad about here on here, check out her fb page too Xx

She who must not be named has given me an amazing quote.
It is for a Benjamin Roberts dress that is not advertised on her website but she says they can make it anyway. How do they get the pattern right?
Before I go ahead I would like a quick summary- has anyone got anything NEGATIVE to say? Bad experiences at all? Differing material? Hidden costs? Things have gotten rather lost in this gigantic thread so any recent comments would be appreciated.
Grace x
CommentAuthorRockabilly chick
The material on mine is different from the original but I really like it. I dont think I have anything negative to say at all. No Hidden costs or anything. Have a wee look in my folder, the photos dont do it justice - bad lighting etc but I was over the moon :-)

CommentAuthorRockabilly chick
I dont know how they get the pattern right but mine is pretty much identical to the original apart from the lace, which would have to be different cos of the cost but I prefer the lace on the copy :-)

CommentAuthorLegoWife
If you don't mind sharing the quote you got I'd love to hear it, I want to request a 'custom' dress eventually too but would like to know if doing so will cost more or less than the dresses that're already on her site. I suppose it might depend on the dress though.
