Iv been making some inserts for a friend and its taken me over a week to do them. My mum was supposed to be making them but due to the situation with my family at the moment she has not been able to. So I have been asked. My friend sent me a wedding invite so that I can see the size of it and have been told their colour scheme. Because the invite does not have their colour scheme anywhere on it I did 3 samples.
The colour scheme is deep pink and cream. The invites are ivory gold and blue.
I did one sample that was deep pink and cream with pink bows to fasten
I did one that was baby pink and cream with pink bows to fasten and a blue bow to tie in with the invite
I did one sample that was Blue and cream with pink bows to fasten in order to tie in with the colour scheme and the invites.
I told my mate that she could swap the colours of the bows around, change the font and size of font a bit. But she loved the baby pink ones how they were and asked me to make them all like that.
I have now completed them all and just need to fasten them together. I have done the font size 18 and the line inbetween each text size 6. there is not really much space for le-way. now having spent over a week making them I get a call from her h2b stating that the font is too small and could I do them bigger.
I didnt know what to say to be perfectly honest as I have 200 inserts ready for fastening that I will never be able to use again and only made them all because my mate gave the go ahead from the sample. If I were to do the font bigger I think it would all be too squished.
What do I do? Have any of you been in this situation or know someone that has? What was the outcome?

I think that you need to explain to the h2b that your friend gave the go ahead and that they are now printed end of. Explain that to do it any bigger it would be very squashed or would have to miss details off.

the thing is is that she is now wanting a sample with bigger text! so shes now with him on this!
Offer to do it, but say you'll have to charge for wasted resources.

Oh dear!!! Are you doing this for free? I would explain it has taken a week, you were given the go ahead and now to re-do will cost more time and money for the bits you will need. If you were unknown to them, they would not of called and changed their mind. I dont envy you as i can see how easily this could end in tears......good luck x

They gave me £40 to cover the cost of materials which there is some money left over iv spent £11.98 on card, £6 on tape, used my own ink, £4 on bows and £5.98 on ribbon so there is £12 left which is enough for card but not tape, the ribbon and bows have not been used yet

they changed there mind so ask them to pay another £20 to cover tape ink and your personal time, love and effort that you have put into them. If they dont agree just give them the printed ones and let them get on with it

Argh what a pain.I would say "i have done them already as you agreed i can do them again but it will cost an exra x amount or you can have them how YOU said you wanted them originally".Don't let them mess you around,its not fair xxx

I'd go back and say she gave to go ahead so you got on with the job for them. Give them the option of keeping what you've done or ask for more money to cover the loss. Granted thay have the right to change their mind, but they should've done it before she said yes. Or, if they get a bit snotty, tell then to do it themselves and see how they like the stress and hassle for making them from scratch, they'll soon realise how valuable your help is xx

see i dont mind doing them all again its just such a pain that they said yes now theyre saying "prints too small" AFTER all ready saying that its good! thing is like i say the print is already size 18.... think i might just do a sample that is larger like they are asking then send the sample off but like i say the text will be all squished on there and i personally feel that this will look horrible having too much large text on such a small insert and to be honest, inserts are not really my thing... its the sort of thing my mum normally does and baring in mind i run a wedding business im not wanting to put my name to something that has squished text to.
i know its their wedding and everything and i am doing this as a friend and not as a stationist (if thats even the correct word) but i still am wary of putting my name to it when its gonna be all squished.

I dont blame you, don't do anything that doesnt look right. Send them a sample with of the larger print, with an explantion that you have already made them and you dont think the larger print looks right and give them instructions to make them themselves if they want the squished ones as you have to consider your proffesional reputation, or they can have the ones they have already agreed. I'll bet my home they take the ones you have done, it cant mean that much if she has already approved them x

like i say im not a stationist/er so maybe others with the correct software could do it but im just doing it cos my mum cant and i know my mum if anything needed printing she'd use my pc and printer anyway... so iv done the best i can with what i have... my laptop had a font i liked better which is slightly bigger and doesnt squish it all up but when using my pc in order to print my pc doesnt have the same font so had to choose a different one and i cant print off my laptop cos i dont know where the disk is to connect the printer up to the laptop properly....
