I'm looking for inspiration for honeymoon ideas - I'd like to go somewhere hot, but not the Maldives or typical honeymoon destinations - I also don't really want to go to somewhere i've already been, which is hard cos I used to work on cruise ships! So just wondering if any of you ladies were planning on something a bit different? x

I got engaged in New York!! I love it, it's one of my favorite cities! There's some really good deals out there though so will keep my fingers crossed for you x

I don't really have a choice on it! But would love to go skiing :) H2B loves it and always talks about teaching me :) I think it would be really romantic, sitting by log fire aww!x

Who come you don't have a choice? Sitting by a log fire does sound good :-) x
H2B is organising honeymoon and I've not to know anything about it until the wedding night :) think he will tell me where we are going during our first dance :) x
CommentAuthortweedwedding
Oh wow!! I suggested to h2b that he organise ours as a surprise for me, but he wasn't keen - said I was too much of a picky traveler!! Kind of true, but I still wish that he'd agreed to organise it...So where do you think your h2b will have picked?
CommentAuthorMrsMac2B
I'm thinking maybe dom rep? Would love to go there but I don't want a beach holiday :( I'm really paranoid about my belly! Dn't get me wrong I love my stretch marks, like my war wombs from pregnancy :D but I was a size 6 before I was pregnant and gave birth to a 9lb baby elephant :) and to top off the massive baby I had excess water too so I was huge!! I've toned up as much as I can but theres not much I can do about the loose skin, don't like the idea of having my belly flapping about on the beach :-\
I would love to go on safari too :D I keep dropping hints but hes giving nothing away xx
CommentAuthortweedwedding
I'd like to go on Safari too - h2b won't have it though - he's not as traveled as I am, in fact he only got his first passport about 5 months after we got together - I think it was my 'I'm not staying in the country for 12 months straight, either get a passport and come with me, or get prepared for me to go away without you' talk! Now he loves it though and has caught my traveling bug! I don't think you should let your figure worry you too much hun - your h2b loves you as you are and i'm sure you'll be so wrapped up in each other i doubt you'll notice anyone else! ;-p xx
CommentAuthorMrsMac2B
thanks :) I know if he does book a beach holiday I will be fine after a day there when I'm boiling and trying to strip naked lol. Aw I'm sure you can talk him round ;) xx

What about Kenya? I would love to go there! We're going to somewhere a lot less exotic, Griffon Forest. They advertise: If you like feeling like you're away from civilisation, like walking and nature then this is for you! We're staying in a luxury log cabin with hot tub, four poster and 50" plasma where you can watch the wildlife in the forest. How boring are we? Lol. My OH doesn't know but has always wanted to go there so I thought I would surprise him xxx
JD is taken so I'll settle for being Mrs Marge :o)

We will either be going off on our boat or going to Italy but the big trip is the following year when we go to Thailand , for those thinking of a safari I can really recommend that as I went to Kenya a few years ago and loved it and it can be so romantic - hot air balloon flight over the plains is just magical.
CommentAuthorFaeth
I would love to go to the US, especially Vegas, but my OH is convinced that everyone in the US has guns, and it would be his luck that he'd get shot - lol.

Mrsbarker, cant you ask your guest for money towards your honeymoon rather then a gift? Thats what we are doing.

We're getting married 6th August so it'll be the school holidays (I work in a school) - but we've booked a week in Malta, all inclusive. We got it for under £1600 so not too bad for the peak season - and it's always hot there so should be good. We also have the beach as well as sightseeing etc so should be good.
CommentAuthorUnknown
thats a good price mym72. Sbride: We are going to ask for money but some people have said its rude but i thought it was fairly common these days as couples live togther first. Ive been to turkey 4 times now to the same town and love it there. was meant to go this year but got caught up in goldtrail collapse!! where abouts you looking to go? xx
CommentAuthorsbride
I dont think its rude hun, people would rather give u what u want. Havent got a clue where to go. Where is it you go? Just want somewhere with a nice beach and family friendly,

i go to somewhere called hisaruno. its near olu deniz and the blue logan...about 10 mins in a taxi which costs a few lira. They still use lira so the exchange rate is always good. the beach there is really nice and the blue lagon which is a national park is amazing!! I know there are all inclusive hotels but i always stay in blue hisar apart but always book flights and accomodation seperatly. it is very cheap when you are there as well. there are plenty of resturants and the food is always good. i go to the same places every time to eat!! there are quiet bars there as well as a few small clubs for younger people however i have never seen any trouble there within the clubs as the police are very strict compared to other holiday resorts. There is also a lot to see and do...there is the ghost town not far away and boat trips, jeep safaries and mud baths. it really is a lovly place

We just booked our honeymoon over the last week or so - and I am stupidly excited about it! We're going to South Africa, starting in Cape Town for 4 nights, then winelands (yum!) for 2 nights, garden route/coast for 4 nights then safari for the last 2 night. My H2b is really spoiling me - posh hotels and upgraded flights.... I am a very lucky girl! We're always wanted to go there but never managed to - in fact we have only ever had 2 weeks off together once in 10 years! So the wedding seemed like the perfect excuse for a massive holiday! x

Id keep an open mind about the traditional honeymoon places.... they get that reputation for a reason, I felt the same and didnt fancy the Maldives but MrMac really did and like you we are well travelled and fancied somewhere new... I thought I knew what to expect but I was blown away.... beach and sea like I didnt beleive really existed (I used to live in queensland so been to pretty fabulous ones) and the service and romance of it was a million miles away from the cliche i expected. Id recomend it to anyone x

I`M VERY LUCKY IN THE FACT THAT IN THE (NEARLY ) 9 YEARS I HAVE BEEN WITH MR LALA we have had some fantastic hilidays
hawaii x2 greece x9 vegas x5 margaritta cape verde kenya so i am finding it difficult to decide ....Mr lala dared to suggest that the week we are in vegas to get married in the vally of fire could also count as the honeymoon .......I DONT THINK SO
Hi girls! Thought id join in the honeymoon/holiday chat as i cant get enough of them! I am quite well travelled and love going away to far away places i never go to the same place twice if i can help it! For those of you that are interested in Kenya as a honeymoon destination i would say it is amazing of course depending on where you stay and what safari you go on!
I got engaged in Kenya in middle of the masai mara so it will always be one of my fav places. It is a real eye opener yet wonderful. There is a hell of a lot of travelling involved so if you dont mind that then go for it. I have also been to New York i went with some friends so i cant say i had a romantic time there lol but i imagine it would be if you went with your partner! lovely horse and carriage ride through central park! And the caribbean beaches are the absolute best!
I am hoping to get married in Portugal but will be honeymooning elsewhere. Id quite like to go on another caribbean cruise or a sandals resort!

Or a Hawaiian cruise would be fantastic.

We're thinking of having a week in LA and then flying to Hawaii for a week. I've had a look at Hawaiian cruises and they do look fab, very pricey tho! I suppose you only have 1 honeymoon, so it would be worth it! :-)

Were going on a tour of Italy. The co op do some great packages where you can mix and match your hotels in different locations so we can do what we want when we want. It will be a mix up of venice, Florence, Pisa, Rome and the Alamfi coast for us so we get a bit of everything.
CommentAuthorPennylane
Jo I got engaged in Italy, it was the most beautiful place! We were in Sorrento and our balcony overlooked the bay of Naples, we did a drive up the Amalfi coast - breathtaking! We also climbed mount vesuvius and went to pompeii. That was amazing x

That does sound out of this world. I can't wait to go over and explore. What is it like to drive over there? We are not sure yet if we would be best to hire a car or just catch the trains as they have a really good public transport system over there. I can't believe that we can get flights from as little as £13.50 inc taxes too which means we have more money to spend on nice hotels and more nights there.
