    Hey ladies,

I had my make-up trial this morning and I hated it - I came out looking like a transvestite. I wanted smoky eyes - not too heavy and light foundation as I am very pale. Here is pic of result AFTER she removed a lot of it when I said I didn't like it. The photo really doesn't show how orange my face was or how dark my eyebrows were.

Thinking I might do my own make up - any one else doing this???? Just like how I do it - I think I should stick with it.

    Bit heavy for a wedding!
And this is after most had been removed?
Did she charge you when you said you did not like it?

Far too vampish for wedding make-up. If she got it so wrong this time then you probably won't fully trust her again. Try another artist, or even try a couple of the make-up counters. You can achieve a smokey eye with just about any colour, it doesn't have to be black and brown.

if you feel confident to do your own, taking into account the nerves you'll no doubt have on the day, then go for it!

i hated my make up trial it was awful i could of cried first time i looked after she removed some of the blusher it looked better but foundation was awful it made imperfections stand out and after an hour or two looked horrid so i splashed out on some clarins make up after visiting a counter and they did a much better job an didnt charge a penny for trial!! wish id had done that b4 wasting £75 on make up lady. i was much happier with doing it myself so try a counter near you and see what you think!! il see if i can find some photos to show u xx

Wow, Mrs*Maria*Louise your actual wedding make up looks worlds better!

I think for the sake of a bit of effort on your wedding morning, getting the look your happy with is much better than relying on someone else to do it.

You don't want to look too different to how you usually do as you still want to look like you, so if you don't like it I wouldn't have it. You could try a different make up artist if you don't want to do it yourself? I know a lot of women do their own make up though so that's also an option. Whatever you want :)

Wow maria the make up you did is soooo much better!!
    Laura4Alex - you look gorgeous.

I did tell her I wasn't pleased, she toned it down (lol) apparently. It didn't look THAT bad in the room but she said she would do it a bit lighter on the day so I paid and got in the car and half way home looked in the mirror and was very shocked. Looked worse in natural light!!! Went back to my friends house and we rubbed the foundation in a bit more and tried to wipe off some of the shadow and blusher. When I got in H2B was like -wtf has happened to your face?! He said TOWIE and this had me decided that I cannot let anyone else to my make up. She put shadow over my eyebrows to "thicken them out" and then said I should go for HD brows which I agreed to going in for in a few weeks but having looked at some on google - they're NOT for me. I like my thin brows that I pluck every few days even if they're not fashionable to most.

    Here comes the bride......

I think it is best to do your own, like someone has said already you want to look like you. If I turn up looking very different to my normal makeup I know h2b will not be impressed, the first thing he would say is what have you done to yourself. Your best going to a good makeup counter treating yourself to some good makeup that you can use again and again. I once had my makeup done by a so called professional and I felt like a man in drag, she put that much on it felt so heavy and I could'nt wait to get home to get it off me. My sister paid over £200.00 on her wedding day for a proffesional and she looked overdone and orange. No one knows you better than yourself. I dont want to spend my wedding day feeling like my face is gonna slide off.

aww thanks ladies, i was happy with my make up on the wedding day, and shows up fine even on outside formals, i was a bit worried but i did trials myself and always took photos outside in daylight, i would recommend trying a make up counter it doesnt cost anything and they will give advice and give u right shade of foundation to avoid the orange look!! i was really pleased with my visit to the counter xx

Im doing my own - i have been to some counters and been practising although will definitely take marialouise's idea on of going outside and taking photos

I have never worn foundation before, only wear make up on special occasions and even then its not much. I am very afraid of someone making me look too orange so am just going to do it myself.

Maria and laura you both looke lovely in your pics :)

Mrs*Maria*Louise - Your own make-up looks tonnes better.
Laura4Alex - That's really lovely, pretty much perfect for wedding make-up.

I'm not a make-up artist but I am fully trained and could be if I wanted to be, but wedding make-up takes a special skill that I don't possess. Too many beauty therapists play at make-up without specialist bridal training.

i went to a estee lauder counter and didnt like what she did. i thought that i would do it myself but didnt want the makeup line under my chin and not being able to cover spots and black eyes lol. The lady that did mine used a airbrush and has been doing makeup for about 20 years working with actors and models. i had a spray tan which i didnt really like so im hoping the makeup will look just as nice with natural colour skin :s im fussy too about makeup and she assures me that i wont need to touch it up during the day apart from the lip colour but i will take some light blsusher if i need to. i told her agter the trial i wanted more mascara and maybe a thin brown line of eye liner on the top lid and a tad more blusher but i thought it was a good trial and my mum is having hers done tooo! x

I saw a really good video the other day on you tube can't remember the name of it all I did was search for bridal make up and it was a bald headed man.
I then did my own make up following the video and it looked amazing the only difference I made was didn't use a primer before my foundation.
Will try and find the link and post it on my wall for all interested.

I think you do look gorgeous Rocketqueen but for a night out not for a wedding and if she had to remove some then that would have been way too much. I'm nervous about mine now, I want eyes like Adele but I don't want to look like Lily Savage. Maria you looked stunning on your day and it obviously lasted well. @laura4alex that's lovely and really natural looking.

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013

aww thank you shirleygirl, the make up lady i had did airbrush foundation and it just looked awful as you can all see, i was worried about make up lines/mistakes as hubby is always one to point these out but i didnt seem to have any of these with using the make up the lady used at the counter and have now just brought more of thefoundation as i dont wanna go back to the cheaper ones, i did touch up once i think but cant complain at that!! xx

I am going to get my mum to do my make up for me as I am worried I will be a little too nervous to do it properly on the day! I think that if you invest some money into some good make up and have a couple of practices on your own until you get the look you want then no one will be able to tell whether you done it yourself or had a make-up artist do it. Plus you will know that it will be exactly as you wanted it then too xxx

As nearly everyone has said, I think it's gorgeous but for a night out, defo not bridal makeup. If it's orange she's not picked the right colour for your skin tone which seems stupid when that should be basic knowledge for a makeup artist. I'm going to have someone do my make up, I do want to look like me still but I'm rubbish at doing make up that'd last all day so I'll just have to be very clear on what I want at the trial.

I'm planning on having airbrush makeup, been told is light, wont be feeling the love if it's really heavy. I'd imagine it's a fine line though between makeup that looks good for the camera and well made up natural looking makeup
