So, we sent the Save The Date cards out and as OH's family and the majority of his friends will be travelling from Durham to Sussex for the big day, we needed to have an idea of numbers, so sent little RSVP cards with the Save the Dates asking people whether they were able to save the date or not.

These have started coming back and OH's mum put together a list of all of his family that should be invited - OH asked her to do that. So the list she gave him was about 35 family altogether, but both said that only 20 would come. The problem is the ones we thought wouldn't save the date have saved the date, which means that the number of friends we want to actually invite are diminishing in numbers.

Has this happened to anybody else? We're already working to a strict budget as it is and some will be travelling miles if we now only invite them for the evening ....

that is a dilemma. we only sent invites to people we actually wanted there i wouldn't of risked people accepting who i didn't want there.
unless you can stretch your budget more i think you will have to do what youve said invite your friends to just the evening do because you can uninvited family who have accepted :-/

I think that's the problem unfortunately when sending out a bunch of invites and only expecting a certain number of people to reply. I would sort of forget about the save the date responses, and then when it comes to sending out invites I would have two guestlists. Then if someone from the first guestlist drops out then you can send an invite to someone from the second guestlist. Then just send evening invites to the rest and its up to them if they come or not xx

actually on the save the dates did you say it was for the full day? the people you were not expecting to accept could you not just sent them an evening one when your invites go out? and if anything is said its a case of well I'm sorry that you presumed it was the full day (obviously not that blunt haha)

That's a very good suggestion.... I'll have a chat with OH as when we were opening them yesterday he was a bit suprised and did have a word with his mum and even she was surprised. I guess they're all thinking of having a little weekend break by the sea from the NE of England!
