we're having one - we're getting everyone to put their favourite song on their rsvp so we can have it played.

I think we're going to do something similar, and we're asking guests for songs on rsvp as well.

Might be worth checking though, to see if it would be cheaper hiring your own equipment and getting some clever friends to set it up for you? And some venues will have their own equipment that you might be able to use.

my cousin did this and it was a brilliant party, the dance floor was busy all night till midnight and everyone was still in the mood to party so a lot of us went into town to a club afterwards, was brilliant.

For our wedding as we were just doing everything really cheap we came up with songs we both liked, he liked & I liked, new old etc, even some scottish ones, I brought my laptop to the reception at his mum's house, plugged in my subwoofer & iPod & away we went, it was great, as ours was a really small reception it was much better than having an actual DJ there.

H2B's aunt had that for her wedding. Was really good as if somebody had a request, she could buy it from itunes there and then.

Yeah that'd probably be a problem with an iPod but not sure if people would really dare go up to it and start faffing with the music! I sure wouldn't not at a wedding anyway.. you could always hide it.

And if you use a laptop or a computer, there's a version of Windows Media Player you can get with something on it called Party Mode, and basically when you start the 'party' it locks the computer and you can allow people to have access to playlists, or requests or you can just have it set to play and not let anyone in without the computer password... nobody can fiddle with it then - unless they turned it off but again, can't imagine anyone would want to do that at someone's wedding!
