We recently went to a wedding fair and my little girl absolutely loved the harpist to point we had to drag her away from her, so thought it would be lovely to have one for when we have drinks at the reception and for the meal. But when I looked into them they wanted £375 for 2hours or £455 for 4 hrs. Which I think is a lot of money. Is it worth looking around for someone cheaper or should I just scrap the idea and have a cd playing music! x

We're paying £320 for 2 hours, so a little bit cheaper.. might be worth having a little look around. This was the cheapest one I found! If you can afford it I think it's a lovely touch xx

That does sound about right, although it's worth looking around. If someone is a member of the musicians union then they will have to charge the musicians union rates as a minimum. A basic rate for me as a flautist might be around £100 - £150 an hour for me alone (accompanists would obviously be more), but you also need to factor in the added costs of transporting a harp, which requires a sizeable car and specialist insurance. It sounds like your little girl might want to learn to play the harp :)

we are having a violoinist and we are paying £295 for 1 hour of playing during our ceremony and then during the canapés and champagne and through the meals (so about 2-3 hrs) we have a pianist which is costing £180

Ahh that was so nice of the harpist to allow your girl a go. Yeah the rate sound about right but I agree with everyone else about looking around. Also see if you can get a discount? For instance week day weddings (no idea what day yours falls on) can sometimes be cheaper then weekends as they are less in demand on week days. My wedding is on a Tuesday so I'll managed to get a few discounts or extra things thrown in for free :)
