Hi, I'm new to the forum but prob one of the oldest "bride to be".

Mine is actually a renewal of vows on our 25th wedding (silver) anniversary.

I've already had the big church wedding & for the renewal we are going down an entirely different route in having a traditional Scottish Hand tying cermony.

Has any other brides had a cermony like this.?

I am so looking forward to our renewal but terrified I will end up looking like mutton dressed as lamb...I no longer know what suits my body shape.

Do Consulants tell you straight if the dress you try on is wrong on you even if you think it's ok?

Also I need a silver dress...any idea where to look.?

My renewal isn't till July 2018 but I know I have to start planning & booking now.

Thanks for any advice given..very much appreciated.

    Yvonne

    Hi yvonne

Im kate im 49 and get married for the second time in 8 months.

Dress wise it depends on what you are looking for but ive seen lots with silver thread embroidery in. Also lots of pale grey / blue fabric.

Are you referring to the handfasting ritual where you will be tied with cord or ribbon around the wrist. I did this in summer, it was very romantic. Irs not just Scottish by the way!:).

As for mutton dressed as lamb, im wearing a full fit and flare with long train and full length veil, who cares what others think its your taste that matters!

My consultant is great and yes you get told if you look rubbish!

    Thank you Katherine.

I've seen several styles Of dress I like but I think that has more to do with I no longer know what suits me so thought best consider different styles.

I really would like a silver dress or at least one that has a lot of silver in it.

We call it hand tying but basically the same thing, yeah it's a Celtic tradition I believe..

I am so glad Consultants will be honest, thanks for reassuring me on that as that was one if not my biggest fear.

The thing is where the cermony is taking place is also open to the Public..we can't have it all to ourselves. Which I actually don't mind but..think that's why I so concerned about the way I will look...don't want tourists taking photos of mutton lol

Thank you for your message of support Katherine really appreciate it x Yvonne
