So, after finding out my first choice hairdresser to do my wedding hair was going to be on holiday, I started the search again for someone I liked to do my hair. Anyway I met some girls from a local hairdressers at a vintage fair. Chatted to them for a while and asked for a bit of info. I wanted to check that theyd be able to travel as my venue is 45 mins away from town. They said thats not a problem and they charged around £60 per hour to travel. So, I got round to booking a trial with them last Thurs. Ended up trying 4 styles and found the perfect one. I paid £50 for my trial and booked them then and there. They did advise me the cost would be £100 for my hair on the day plus travel expenses. I also asked them if they would be able to spend a couple of mins pinning my BM fringes back off their faces. (Didnt want anything too complicated for them) Although a bit expensive, was happy with the price. Anyway, I left the hairdressers with them promising to call me later that day to confirm prices, booking etc. Anyway, it hit today (5 days later!) without a word from them, and so I decided to drop them a line to find out what the hold up was. They came back to me and told me the cost for the day was over £500! The breakdown is:
    My hair £100
BM hair 2@£60 each (Couldnt believe this either seeing as it was a 30 sec job and I told them specifically what I wanted)
    Travel £340
    Total £560

She tried to justify the travel expenses by saying that it also covers the fact that she is out of the salon for the morning.... What twaddle! My venue is 45 mins from the salon, so at the costs they quoted me previously, it should be £40 travelling costs, maybe £80 if I had to pay for travel both ways..... Im just mad because they got me into the salon thinking it was going to be much less than what they eventually quoted. Also Im not sure if they even wanted to do my hair in the first place, seeing as they didnt come back to me as promised and I had to chase them. Sorry for the long one, not even really asking for advice, but just venting my frustration at wasting £50 on a trial with them that I am never going to see again and having to start again

Just looking for a bit of sympathy really x x

Oh no, that's rubbish service they've given you hun!! Surely they can't tell you one thing, then leave it at that without a word and when you get in touch put the prices up to that, that's shocking!! If they agreed a price with you, they should stick to that price xxx

Whoa, that's extortionate. Clearly they don't care about creating a long term customer relationship with you. Do you have pictures of the hairstyle you like? At least now all you need to do is find a stylist and not a hairstyle.

***Big Hugs*** I know you'll be able to find someone even better and less expensive. x

trouble is they can tell you anything but without having it in writing you have nothing .........

    i would email them back

    Dear........

thankyou for you email despite me having to contact you ,

I am a bit concerned regarding the break down of your quote ...
    My hair £100
BM hair 2@£60 each .. as i told you this would be to quite simply grip their fringes back as this would take approx 10 mins each maximum i think charging £6 per minute to inset a couple of grips is disproportionate to the task in hand.

Travel £340....you told me you charge £60 per hour to travel .. there was no mention of the additional charge for you accepting a job which took you away from the salon .. the amount you have charged is again disproportionate to the task in hand.

    Total £560

i would appreciate a response with in 24hrs of receipt of this email

That is far too expensive for what you want.

At least you have a hair style you like though :)

Ooooh I like that response Lala. I did email them saying that the travel expenses we more than my total budget on its own. I'll see what they come back with and then hit them with what you said. I do agree that without something in writing, I dont really have a leg to stand on. My Mum is ready to go down there demanding my £50 back as they got me there under false pretences, but I dont reckon she'll get anywhere with it. Either way, Im more angry at myself for getting taken in and robbed of £50 which I could really do with at the moment! x

Would be cheaper to hire a wedding car to drive to the salon and back to get it done!

That's outrageous - and to be honest, you might be fifty quid out of pocket but sounds like you've had a lucky escape - do you really want such unprofessional people involved in your wedding day?

Is there nowhere you can leave public feedback ie a Facebook page or something?

please be very careful about saying anything on a public forum such as FB... you have nothing to prove what they first said to you and you could leave your self open to libel action
