DEFIANTLY!
Work out exactly what you want from your day and the price your willing to pay then take both to your venue and ask what they do for you.
We fell in love with our venue but knew it would be out of our price range! We werent too bothered when we got married date wise so we decided we would have an out of season date and on a sunday we then decided to stick to their min numbers no matter what and we would use our cake as dessert! We also decided instead of paying for a second big meal we would only have bacon rolls and mini chip cones for the reception............all this were ways to cut costs and we decided before we went to talk to the venue our max budget for it and took OFF £500. we went told them what we wanted and the budget we have and asked what they could do for us AND we are are actually paying less then the amount we told them BONUS!

i plan on haggling for EVERYTHING lol. We have a very strict budget and are having to self fund everything even though we do not have much money ourselves. I will not compromise on making this the dream wedding for both myself and my H2B but i refuse to start married life in substantial debt lol! Haggle Haggle Haggle i say!
I'm rubbish at haggling! But I will try and get flexibility outta our venue and change things in the package to better suit my needs which they have said that should b ok.
I really wanna haggle the price of my dress down when I decide on "the one" I think I have a fair idea of what it is and if the other dresses I plan to try in the next 8 weeks don't match up I will get it ...............only prob is it is about £300 over my budget, but the boutique I'd get it from is a small local business and I don't wanna take the michael.
I will try haggling on the cars and cake but not sure I'm very good at it, might see if Dad or H2B will do it lol.

h2b and i haggle a lot of things
*say something like 'what's the best price you can give me?' you'll be amazed at what that little question can save you.
if they ask what sort of price you are thinking of, go in with a very low figure, then you can go back and forth with them until you reach a price you are both happy with.
if you aren't happy, walk away.

also if your not happy then remember you have the power as u have the money so yeah haggle with anything you can as previous people have said they can only say no, if im booking anything i always ask if they can email me a quote i never commit there and then infront of them (apart from my wedding dress), i like time to think about things so then i also have time to go back to them with questions e.g for my chairs covers i ask if she would knock money off twinkle dance floor coz had chair covers thro her she knocked £100 off for me then also ask her if she threw in anything free as my whole order from her is over £1000 ive now got free ivory roses to go in back of chair covers it is always worth the ask. xxx

Always woth trying and if it is a smaller business you have more chance of getting it down! Big brands have to go through lots of people to ok it all whereas if it is a smaller company they have to maybe only go to their manager or the owner. When we went to ours we dealt with the owner and couldnt get the price down on the meals (although they are only £30 a head anyway) but they are giving us corkage for £5 instead of £10, plus we are getting it exlusively (they can have up to 3 weddings on at once) for no extra price as we werent sure the exact numbers so didnt know what area was best to book, and this is for a wedding on a Saturday in August! (it's their busiest time!) The worst that can happen is they say no! xxx

I'm deffo going to give it a go now too! Amazing, i just thought the price they gave you was the price and no move on it! xx
CommentAuthorRaggedyAnne
I didnt haggle the price. To my mind the price is the price. I will however try and get little extras WITHIN the price. I hate it when people try and knock me down in price, so I dont do it to others.
I believe if you go to a venue with less money to spend than there packages cost, then its worth asking what CAN they do for the money you have.
I can resist anything but temptation

If you are able to be flexible then you should be able to haggle. If you want your wedding on august bank holiday then you have a much slimmer chance but if you dont ask x
CommentAuthorleah
rather impressed with myself today! took note of comments on here and rang a venue explaining that there drinkspackage was out of budget and another venues were cheaper and she came up with another option 450 quid cheaper!! lesson well learnt , haggle haggle haggle! xx

I'm certainly going to do this, I know the venue I would like, I had decided to have the wedding breakfast there are there are only 20 of us and they sit you in a conservatory around one large table with a private bar. But their evening menu is much more expensive than another local venue so was planning on having the evening party elsewhere but if I can get them to change a few things or add a few extras in then I'd prefer to have the whole day in one place.

Great news Leah, well done! See - always worth asking! It took me ages to pluck up the courage to haggle but managed to get 10% off my dress and managed to get some extra drinks added to my wedding package! Yeah!
