Okay, so me and my fiance are getting serious about this wedding milarky now..... So we have booked an appointment with a wedding co-ordinator at the hotel that we really, really want to get married at as we spent a perfect weekend there about 14 months ago now. But what I'm wondering is do we actually let this person know this? Should we go and see other venues? Do we haggle over the price as we will be paying for a few rooms also? Do we lie and say we've seen other venues? I've looked into other venues on the net and none of them seem quite as gooder offer as where we would ideally like to get married. Just wondered what advice anyone could offer me?
Thanks Amy :-)

Dont commit ask if its the best price they can do.
Go with your budget have a strict idea of what you want to spend as some venues will adapt package to match it
Dont be afraid to ask and if discount isnt available ask what extras you can get thrown in xx

if they wont go down in price try to get a few freebies!! xx
If they have a price list, and you work out how much it's gonna cost say £3500 for drinks, canape's, meal all for 50 people and buffet for 100 people.......(this is what we are working on)
How much can you expect to haggle them down by......could you go more than 10% ??? what % would you start at......
We have worked out how much it's going to be, but obviously as I am a yorkshire lass I never pay full price for anything.....

Don't be afraid to walk away to think about things and then go back to them and say you have found other venues that can do it for x amount so can they bring their prices in line with them? It doesn't matter when you go to view how many venues you have seen before etc. Just tell them that you will let them know what you decide. When you go to see them though do your homework and find out what extra costs they add on for things like cake cutting and other little things that they like to charge you for. Also ask them what you can can't do at their venue as some won't let you have things like chocolate fountains, sweetie bars (unless you pay in extra charges)

definatly just ask. if there are things in the package tht you dont want or need, see if you can ask for a price without them included. for example, we arent having wine on the tables, as most people wont drink it. One of our short listed venues includes chair covers, flowers and some other things within their hire price. we would want them, but if we didnt i would have asked for a reduction n that too, as we would be paying for something we werent going to use! Look for hidden charges. Some places charge for things like cutlery etc s make sure you sk about that x

Nothing to loose in asking, but like others said do your homework if your going to say you can get it cheaper somewhere else, then it's handy to know where if you need to back it up. I've saved quite a bit haggling and my next job is to check if the disco/dj will cut his price, as I've got a band in that are doing segments, he'll not be playing half the time he would be usually, if no reduction then I'll go with the bands disco music, just wanted dj for the disco lights really, anyway I'll give it a go.... To be fair they have already upped the price when the word 'wedding' is mentioned, I think they probably expect a haggle!

Thanks girls. I think I am going to go with the fact that other venues that are comparable prices have nice chairs that wouldn't need chair covers, but this venue has horrible cheap stacking chairs that will need dressing, and the fact that other venues have a mix of square and round table mirrors and this venue doesn't, also other venues provide the bridal suite and 2 extra rooms for the bridal party, whereas the venue I want would only give us the bridal suite......Hopefully as I can give examples of things I am going to have to pay for on top with them I can bring their prices down a bit.
But then again we are seeing another 4 venues today so fingers crossed......

It's actually really nice. I brought the date forward 6 months and h2b was like PING lets get this thing sorted, make a list of the venues you want to visit and lets get going! I love him so much. We are both living and breathing the wedding. He even turned work down as it would impede with our searching. Last night he even got on the computer and found 3 venues for today, then I couldn't sleep for thinking of wedding things that I added another hotel from my childhood town. It doesn't have gardens or advertise it's self as a wedding venue, but I know all the quirky places for us to go for photos. And it's close to my grans chapel so if she dies then we could have a blessing from her vicar as just grans family.
