I feel totally lost and rather sad that I have had to take my engagment ring off as it making my fingure sore (its not to tight or at least i dont think so it comes off with ease). Yesterday and today it is making my figure red and leaving a really bad indent of where it sits and just feels really uncomfortable (Its 9K white).

Have any of you ladies had this and what could be causing it.
I do have reactions to yellow gold (and aware the white gold just a coating but never had a problem with it before most of my jewellery white gold) and I am PRAYING i not having a reaction to it and have to stop wearing it i would be heart broken!!!

Hmm.. sounds like a reaction to me, especially if you have reacted to yellow gold before... have you got any cream you can put on? Some sort of hydrocortisone or maybe allergy tablets? If you take one of those and see how you are, if the redness dies down or disappears etc it may be an allergy... then again if you've never had it before I don't see why its playing up all of a sudden.

If its leaving a bad indent then it may not sit/fit properly, has it changed shape, or have you changed shape etc?

Lula I thought I may have lost some weight as it feels bit bigger now than whe i got in in July so that may have something to do with it but ring doesnt look toof cahgned shape that i can notice (and yes i have just had it off closely looking lol).

I havent got any cream at moment but will get some to try Im realy hoping that its not a reaction I dont want another ring :( x

if its looser then maybe you have lost weight, and does it turn around or slip round much? is the indent in the usual place? it may have slipped round as its slightly looser and sit at a different angle now. It could also be now you've lost weight, your body is changing internally as well and now reacting to the metal in a way it didnt before?

I know as time goes on all rings change or mold to the shape of your own finger but shouldnt have done that yet!
Maybe take an antihistamine or something and see how that goes and get hold of some cream, and as much as you hate not wearing it, leave it off for a couple of days and see how you get on.

If worst comes worst, could you not possibly see about pricing up to have the ring re set? Does it have stones in it? Could always see how much it would cost to have it reset in palladium? The one up from white gold but not quite plat?

Just a thought - you react to gold and as you say white gold is just a coating...that may have started to wear off so the gold is 'touching' the skin? Does the ring look like it as a slight yellowish tint? x

If you have lost weight then it may be loose and rubbing your finger. My e-ring made my finger red and sore until I had it made smaller xx

I did say to H2B last night about it and have it put in palladium but need to look at prices for this as not sure of anywhere taht will do that near to me etc.

I hadnt thought about it moving slightly and rubbing will have to keep an eye on it see if thats it good suggestion.

I have had it off all night an morning, cleaned it let it dry totally natrally etc and have just popped it back on to see what happeneds and how long it takes if it does it agin will then really need to look intotstuff x

thansk for your advise ladies hope i can get it sorted x

Cleaning it is a great idea, I'd really suggest some hydrocortisone cream if your skin syays red and irritated

    Hi

I have a white gold ring and i get exactly the same reaction as you do, my finger goes itchy and sore and a 'dent' form in my finger. It s only now and again though, i usually find its when ive washed my hand a bit of soap is left under the ring, other times nothing triggers it. I find taking my ring of for a day or 2, giving it a clean helps. Hate to take it off but sometimes i can't bare the itchiness.

    Hope this helps :0)

I had this with a ring I've had for years (not my engagement one). I had been cleaning in the day so think it was just some of the cleaning stuff under it. I make sure I take them off or wear gloves now.

If you've got some. Leaning stuff or something irritable underneath it, that could have caused the problem?

I'd leave it off for a couple of days, clean it and go from there xx

Same prob with a ring my nan bought me for my 18th, think it was due to washing hands and not drying off properly made it really sore and swell up! This was white gold too but I have 3 others so I know I'm not allergic. It must b so horrible having to take it off! I never take my engagement ring off apart from if I do gardening which is hardly ever! Haha :-) x I'm sure if u leave it off for a bit it will b fine just try and keep it clean and dry to stop any irritation x

Mrs Brammer how long have you had the ring? You might need it to get re-dipped. After a while the white gold starts to fade (or wear off or something) which is why they go dull over time. If it needs re-coating that might be why it is now irritating you as the gold underneath is coming through.

Hold it next to a brand new white gold ring and see if the colour is slightly different. If so you can take it in the a jewellers and they'll send it away and get it done for you. I know that a man named Samuel, first name H does it for about £35. I'm having mine done before the wedding so it looks as shinny as the new wedding band then they will at least dull together - at the mo the new one makes the old one look dreadful! xx

I only got in July Lizzylou and it looks ok and funny enough my other ring does need re dipping so i have been keeping an eye on Engagement ring but its not that.

It seems to be ok at the moment since i had it off all night and morning and gave it good clean, think i may just have to take it off at night to give my finger some air or something least that way wont notice that not got it on lol x
