Well I was thinking this morning about our venue and how they say we have to pay for 100% of the food for the evening buffet but I know most of it will go to waste as we finish our three course meal at about 7.30pm! Obviously the venue want their money regardless but I refuse point blank to see food go to waste when other people are starving.
I'm going to ask them if we pay them the same amount of money if they will cut down the food on the evening buffet and do canapes with the afternoon drinks to balance it out that way. I can't see why they can't do it as they will be getting the same amount of money and it means our food is then spread out more appropriately. I wouldn't spend money on canapes usually but think this could be a way around of the food wastage and gives our guests a little something extra at a time when they will be needing it.

I know once we have finished with the buffet I will ask my guests if they want doggy bags and anything left over will get sent down to the public bar for the other hotel guests as its better to do that then let it all go in the bin. I will let you know on Monday what they say about it.
Its a shame you cant give the wasted food to staving people so cutting down waste is the beat option

good idea, mine want me to cater for all too but a lot of people dont and the cake is in the buffet so im going to cater for about 70% and hope people arnt too greedy lol

Just be careful, there are strict rules about how long food can be out on a buffet - it's only something like 45 mins before it has to go in the bin. Room temperature makes bugs grow.....

Some venues are more flexible but mine says 100% and that is that although so far they have been pretty good with things so I'm hoping they will say yes. I just hate the weekends and the fact that they are not there to answer my questions lol.

Good news! I've spoken to the venue and they are more than happy to transfer some of the money from the buffet to the canapes in the afternoon so it means the guests get an extra treat while we have our photos taken and it saves wasting food at the end. Yay! I'm so pleased I thought of the idea!

It would have been nice if our venue just did 70% as it would save us some money but at least it is being better spent now. It would have cost us another £420 to have canapes so we are able to provide this for the guests now without spending any more.

I'm having 21 kids to both my day and evening do.
