I'm so angry and cross today its untrue. This time next week is our wedding day. Today 2 more guests have just cancelled, and looks like another 4 wont be coming either. Its turning into a farce. Started with about 45, then yesterday I was down to 30. Today I am down to 24. Two very expensive childrens party bags wasted. £240 of wasted meals. And now I have below minimum numbers for the venue. Have just sent messages to the other guests (apart from immediate family who I know will be there for definite) saying I need to know today if anyone else cant come. Given up with table planning. Got far too many favours made up. Got far too many welcoming drinks and toasting bottles ordered. And so fed up I just dont know what to do with myself. If I could cancel and run away to get married I would. Planned this wedding so everyone could come, everyone was so excited about it and have been saying for the last 13 months how much they were looking forward to it. And now to be let down by SO many people at the last minute is a real kick in the teeth. We have shifted some from the evening to the daytime but H2B doesnt want to shift any more as most of them we KNOW can only attend in the evening. I feel very let down, very un-loved and very unsupported by so called family and friends. I have table decorations for tables that arent needed any more. I feel so stupid to think this would all work out. Its a disaster. (I must add that som of the guests are DISTANT relatives and not people we even know very well!!!!!!! ) And we still dont know if the Best Man and his partner are coming. Wont know till the day before. And to top it all I have a HUGE wedding cake that is now just going to look ridiculous and totally over the top. H2b is being lovely and saying as long as we are there and have 2 witnesses he doesnt care. He just doesnt understand how let down and upset I feel. I just want to go on honeymoon and leave it all behind.

When we got engaged I just wanted a nice garden party but everyone said no, there would be too many people. Wish I'd listened to myself. Garden party would have been more perfect than this.

awww hugs hun!! and as for too many welcomin drinks.... they now get 2 each and the wine... more 4 every1 too! i think the venue will understand hun! as its not ure fault ure friends/family are absolutley out of order!!!!!!

I'm so sorry to hear people have let you down!
I'm sure your day will still be extra special with you and your H2B - see if you can get people to fill the spaces and if not - well more drink for your special guests that have actually made the effort!
I imagine the minimum number will be a money thing so as long as you're still paying for the min number I'm sure the venue will not be a problem.

I would be so angry, so I can totally understand why you are so upset. I have a few family members who always say they are going to attend parties that we organise and then they don't turn up. Yet we can't be spiteful and always attend there's. I've already told certain family members that if they think there might be the slightest chance that they won't attend, then they shouldn't, as I will cause a feud if I fork out £40pp and they cancel at the last minute. I really do feel for you chic, especially as your ideal wedding was to have a lovely garden party and because of these people you chose to scrap what you wanted.

Excuses I've had...

Cant come - stocktaking.
Cant come - looking after an elderly relative.
Cant come - no reason (quite a few of those)
Cant come - no money (quite a few of those too)

Jane hun if i was close to you id come over to give you a massive hug, and believe me i do know how you feel, i only had 28 guests as i didnt want to invite all my family as way too many and i knew they would start fights. Anyway 8 of them didnt show!! 6 of them were my parents friends and 2 were relatives & then my friend and her 2 children had to leave after ceromony as her lil one felt ill, only excuse i got from 1 was they went to work because they forgot?? anyway i dont care about the excuses because i simply didnt care, hubby & i was so happy just getting married it didnt matter there was only a handful of people there, and it made it more intimate, we all sat together in the resturant and had a fab time.

I really wish you a fab day hun & try not to get too upset, they simply not worth your time any more if thats how they are. xx

Yup exactly, and the pictures were still nice, and way they were put together you would never iv really known, he did loads of mini shots, like me & parents, one with my brother,ect.

XjoX - nearly made me cry there... if my teenage son wasnt in the room I would have! Going to have a crisis meeting after tea (and a large bottle of wine!) and try to figure out if any other evening ones can be moved without offending any others from the evening - most of them know each other so difficult! Already filled one place ... possibly two - friends of my two daughters who they would like to come (and we know them both VERY well, so not a problem) My kids are being brilliant tonight, dont know what I'd do without their support, and H2bs ... and ALL OF YOURS!!!! You girls are just the best. xxxx

I'm sure you will sort things out. As long as you and your h2b are there and you can drag two witnesses off the street that is all that matters. If the other selfish people can't be bothered to make the effort then you don't want to be spending your money on them anyway. I wouldn't want people at my wedding just for the hell of it. Even if you don't fill the places up you will still have an amazing day so keep your chin up and start smiling again because this time next week you will be a wife!

But seriously Jane I hope you have the fabbiest day and try and forget about those that can't come. At the end of the day the most important part of your wedding day is you and your h2b and saying your vows, whether there is only 2 other guests there or 200. xx

Hun I know your pain.. I had 2 family members pull out at the last minute but that was totally unavoidable and I knew all along that it may be the case, 1 other person had a motorbike accident the day before but was still adamant he wanted to make it, bless him he was in hospital for 3 weeks, silly sod.. But him and his partner were not there, we had 2 ask what time they had to be there but they were only invited in the evening but it sorted our problem out so that turned out to be ok and then on the day 2 people never turned up and we are still waiting for an excuse 8 months later!! Even though people let me down it turned out to be the best day ever as all the girls here told me it would.. What annoyed me was the amount of people letting me down the week before for the evening reception!! People will ALWAYS let you down no matter what, but someone once said to me "you won't even notice who is missing" and they were so right, it was only the next day when I read my text messages from a few people apologising that I thought " oh yeah, they were not there" lol.. Your H2B is right, all it takes is you, him and 2 witnesses and everyone else can go to hell, I know you want it to be the perfect day and you want to share it with those that you love and care about and those that feel the same way will be there and you will have a perfect day no matter what! It can be awkward inviting people from the evening to the day as they know why it is happening but hopefully you will have people say yes to swapping!! No matter what happens try, try and TRY to enjoy this last week, this is when you should be relaxing and getting excited, so kick back, relax and enjoy the build up cos you deserve it after all the planning

Got to laugh about it eventually, not going to let it spoil our day. Its their loss. I just hope that all the people that couldnt come and cancelled late still SEND US A PRESENT!!!!!! My mum said she will be having words with them all else! She reckons its etiquette. Anyway, going to go to bed now, happy easter everyone (in 10 minutes!) xxxx

Feeling a lot more happier this morning, got more of a 'couldnt care less attitude' and I'm making a huge chocolate Guiness cake which for Easter which means I get to lick the spoon. What more could I ask for??!! LOL. You are all amazing, thank you so much for your support here. Means much to me. Honestly. And you are right Maggielou, you learn who your friends are. One bit of good news, the party of 4 that were going to come with their parents have decided to come without them, so the two childrens party bags are still needed! Very pleased as they cost me about £25 each to put together!!! H2B is surprised his cousin and wife and two kids are coming without his aunty and uncle as he thought they were a 'package deal', guess not!! So happy about that. And chased up a few last night via Facebook and on the phone, people who I thought may pull out at the last minute as well, but they are all coming. And looks like my kids are all bringing someone each (my son wants to bring his gf of 1 week which I think is scaring the living daylights out of her so she is coming to a family bbq tonight to meet us all! Bless him, he is besotted, this is THE one he reckons. He's 16......bless!) So with one other person brought from evening to daytime we look as though we get to the number of 32 with 2 children extra. Ideal. Happy with that. If anyone else cancels now I will not be held accountable for my actions! xxxxxxx
