Hi Girls I have had an operation on my foot to remove a bunion and straighten some toes, this was done 7 weeks ago now and foot is still so very swollen and painful. The bones had to be broken and a screw and pins inserted to hold it all back together. I know I still have two months before the wedding but am really worried that I wont be able to wear my wedding shoes and I really really love them. I am a heels girl at heart and am really scared that I wont ever be able to wear heels again..... people keep telling me that it doesnt matter what you wear under your dress as it wont be seen but am sorry I just dont feel elegant in flat shoes I live in my heels!!! I suppose that Coz am only 5'2" argh!!!! do any of you know anyone who has had a similar operation and what the recovery time was??? XX

My mum has been advised to have her bunions removed but decided that she couldn't cope being off her feet that long! I think although you can get a general idea of recovery time, you need to remember that everyone is different and heals at different rates. Can you get a shoe stretcher to try and widen the shoes a bit? I can totally relate to you and the need to wear heels - I'm only 5'1"! Hope it gets better soon Hx

I've just had a toe straightened and pinned but no bunions removed. I had a 6 week recovery time when I had to stay off work but then went back full time. That was 6 weeks ago and I've only just started to feel back to normal. I've managed to wear heels a couple times, yes my foot ballooned when I took them off but I managed to walk in them comfortably at least. I reckon you'll be ok, but I would suggest that you get some flats for the evening of your wedding if you havent already. My wedding shoes now fit again, and heels are fine to wear but I could no longer wear them all day so I've bought flats too. Where have your toes been pinned? Mine was pinned all the way through and the joint closest to my foot was removed so now that joint has disappeared I only have one joint in my toe that actually bends - thats probably why wearing heels isnt as comfortable as it used to be, because my toe doesnt bend like it used to. I can still wear them though so keep your chin up, you'll probably be ok :o) xxxx
Thanks Sara, yes the toes I had straightened had pins going right through the bone but those pins have now been pulled out. More concerning to me is where the bunion was removed as they had to break the big toe and the bone that connects it, remove the piece of bone that was jutting out and then pin and screw it all back together, those pins and screw stay in then forever......eeek. This is the part of my foot that is still really swollen (7 weeks later) still cant get any sort of footwear on at all yet and am due back at work end of next week too. Hopefully it will all sort itself out in time, even if I can just wear heels for the day I would be happy and then as you say get flates for the night time as I want to dance all night anyway, just keep evrything crossed for me xx
