Would you be interested in going to an afternoon tea party dressed in 1940's clothes, the day after you've been a guest at the wedding at the same venue?
We were already having a Cornish cream tea party for guests as many will be staying in Cornwall over the weekend/week and we wanted to do something a little less formal and relaxing on the Sunday afternoon. Most of our other guests are all local. We have the venue till the Monday so we want to make good use of the time there. Our Venue is a Victorian fort that was also used in World war 1 and 2. We have the Victorian theme for our wedding. Now h2b wants a 1940's themed Cornish cream tea party, if that makes sense.

I have reservations as it may be asking too much of guests to bring costumes/uniforms/40's clothes with them. Also worried many may be a little too hung over for a tea party the day after. What would you think as a guest? xxx

I like that idea, and I think they would come, but like u say, people may not want the hassle of costumes. U could always say that costumes are optional?

i think its a good idea to have something planned for the next day, especially as you have the venue. I do agree that maybe would be best to say costumes optional as you don't want to put people off if they feel they dont have the right outfit.

I love when there is something going on the day after, especially when I've travelled for a wedding, it makes a real weekend of it. As many others have said, the fancy dress thing should maybe not be compulsory, I'm a big fan of costumes but even I might struggle to muster up the enthusiasm with a hangover. But if the theme is there and the music is good I don't think you necessarily need everyone to be dressed up xxx

Sounds lovely, though there may be a fair few who will just be sitting around nursing hangovers, lol. We are having 1940's tunes playing during the buffet, and one of our friends suggested we asked guests to dress in that era but with our guests they are travelling a fair distance and paying enough for accommodation and fuel that we aren't going to ask them that, but I do love the idea and think you should go for it, it will be a weekend to remember! :)

Nice idea...but may be seen to be dragging the wedding out and possibly an unnecessary expense... maybe you could incorporate it in to your day or hold a party like that for another reason.

Sounds great!! I don't think people would dress up after spending money on gifts, outfits for the big day, travel etc, but a tea party is a great way to doubly thank your guests or coming and would also soak up some of the alcohol ;) lol

I like this idea but agree with some of the ladies about costume, after spending money on a wedding outfit, travel, accom, gift etc asking for people to be in costume may be too much.

My wedding was a vintage tea party, it was really popular, however I agree with the others that the costumes may be a bit much. Also, the day after my wedding, I was completely shattered, so I would recommend something low on effort!!

sounds like a lovely idea and if h2b is organising it i would go along with it as they dont tend to give you much info. LIke the other girls have said though maybe just say costumes are optional but if it was me i know of at least 5 people where the costume would be on no questions asked as they like to play dress up lol xx

Great idea, but as others have said, maybe a bit too much effort/expense when people are already getting wedding outfits/paying travel and accommodation. I'd say make the theme with the venue decorations and have optional costumes :)
