my h2b is quiet reserved and doesnt like to be the centre of attention,and has told me noooooooo way is he doin a speech so i said what your not even goin to say thankyou and that your new wife is beautiful and how much u love me. he said i dont wanna stand in front of everyone NO. :-(

i understand hes reserved and doesnt wanna speak in front of everyone but surely he could stretch to a thankyou and your loking beautiful/stunning/gorgeouse/ugly or whatever :-( x

I know a few men who have gone on a public speaking course to help with confidence. but if he really does not want to do it there is no reason why he has to you could give a speech instead

I agree that someone does have to thank everyone for all the help etc but you could definitely do it if he really feels he can't.

If he doesn't want to do it then I would say don't force him to do it. Loads of weddings don't have them now so no one will miss them. You don't want him not enjoying your day together because he is too worried about the speech or even worse getting totally drunk to give him the confidence.

my h2b has been wed before and when making a speech all he could manage to say through his pint pot was 'thanks, for all your help, whoever you are'. he has informed our wed co-ord the speech he is making has 4 words::::: THE BAR IS OPEN!

worse still my oldest friend got married 2 years ago and whilst making speech the groom turned around and said ' i want to thank my wife, who scrubs up well; surprisingly!'. it was one of those moments when there was a collective gasp and then complete silence whilst it sunk in.

if he isnt one for public speaking then dont force him, and you never know he may surprise you on the day!

I wouldnt put it past any man to be honest hun. With 2 months to go to the wedding we have no best man as he doesnt want to do a speech.

My h2b isn't doing a speech - in fact we're not having speeches at all. BM isn't one for public speaking so we're not going to put my dad on the spot so to speak either. I can't see what the point is - I'd prefer them to feel relaxed and not have to worry about doing one really.

I don't know about whether Dan will be making much of a speech or not either- but I've surprised myself by really wanting to do one.

And Martey what that groom said about his wife scrubbing up well- I just found hilarious!! Might use something like that myself, suppose it depends on how he said it!

I can completely understand stressed and maybe if he does not want to do a speech perhaps you could suggest he could write down what he would have said/feels to give to you privately. My friends husband would not give a speech so he wrote all he had to say and had a copy put on each table for the guests to read at the reception. Not ideal but at least the sentiment was there. We are dreading the speeches as mil2b already heckled h2b during his speech at the engagement so god knows what she will do at the wedding as she has to keep out doing herself!!!

Im doing our thank you speech as my H2B wont do a speech either, his brother is trying to get out of doing his speech too but he cant coz he is best man!

Its soo annoying but my H2B is very shy so i cant really complain about it, I am marrying him for who he is so its part of the david package..
