My H2B works from home but for a company making and running websites and ticketing systems for sports teams amongst other things. Whenever we go away for the weekend he always takes a laptop in case he is called on for anything. He now tells me that he is planning to take a laptop to the Dominican Republic on honeymoon with us- he claims not for work. I said no way! I dont see why when he will be off on holiday he needs a laptop. Yes we are buying a Gobecon thing which allows us to go online but that is to send the odd message home and to play music via youtube whilst we get ready for dinner- we both have a samsung tab to take and both an iphone.

Who is in the right? If the laptop gets stolen or anything (as it wont fit in a safe im sure) it would ruin things im sure.

if you both have tablets to take with you .. you can check emails send messages on there ... also load up music to take so no need for the laptop !!

I would not be happy with that. Even when we go on a normal holiday we don't take anything other than an old phone. When we are away its to get away from everyday things! If it can't be left behind for that shorter period if time then there's summat wrong. Maybe thats just mine and oh way of thinking though x

I'd be annoyed too, I don't think there is any need for it. Especially when you have tablets and things, when we go on a normal holiday we only take our phones and even they are switched off most of the time. I really enjoyed two weeks last year without the phones on constantly :)

For our honeymoon we will have just the phones again but they might be on a little more purely because my son is stopping with my mum, so will want to keep in touch with them.... although he's going away with them for a week... so if they go abroad as well then we might not be able to contact him for that week.

For music and watching films, I would be fine, however if its a laptop that has work related bits on I would be a no as the point of holidays / honeymoons is to be away from work.

If it was anything other than work related I wouldn't be bothered, but because he uses it for work, I'd want a break from that. You don't need to take your technology everywhere with you, sometimes a break from it all is nice.

Thanks ladies! I am hoping I win! I wouldnt mind if I was 100% convinced that he wouldnt check his work emails. I just dont understand why he needs it - we literally want to play music and check in with the folks twice in the week i.e arrived safe and having a fab time.

I'd say you only need to take one tablet and your phones. On our honeymoon we took my tablet and our phones. Both mobiles were turned off for the whole honeymoon and I basically checked emails and sent occasional messages home as well as doing some fb updates.

I made hubby keep his phone off to avoid him taking work calls because every single break or holiday we'd ever had he'd take calls from work but I drew the line on our honeymoon.

Tbh, my parents always take a laptop on holiday with them as they have their own business as well and check in every day or so but not for long. can you not just say to him 'do 15 minutes admin per day?'? That's a compromise isn't it? x

i think its one thing if its your own business, but if its just 'work' then no, i wouldnt be willing to even consider compromising on that at all.

If it's your own business then fine but hubby is a police officer so I think it takes the biscuit to call him on holiday then he runs up a huge phone bill taking the call abroad. He's taken calls on every holiday we've been on with the exception of honeymoon because I just put my foot down and drew the line at that. Honeymoon is the one break you should not be disturbed on unless family life or death situation.

I kind of think it's up to him and that as long as it isn't affecting your time together it's not a massive deal; during the day OH and I read/go on our phones/tablets and only talk when we get in the pool to cool down, and we're fine with that. I do appreciate that different couples are different though.

That said: I wish him luck lol. The internet connection is really not good (we also used Gobecon). I could just about post on FB/Trip Advisor, it really was not very good!

That would me cross too! You're supposed to be relaxing not working! My OH is self employed and won't take more than a few days off for a mini-moon, because he can't afford any more than that :o/ I'm hoping he'll change his mind when the time comes!
