My h2b doesnt like posed photos, he really has a thing against them, he says that they are cheesy and rubbish.

I have put my foot down and said there is no way im not having a photographer at our wedding. I would be devistated if we didnt have one, and he knows it, but he is still being difficult about it saying he doesnt want staged photos!!

thing is I give in to him a lot for an easy life, and Im worried that on the day I will give in and say fine, no posed picks, but I know I will regret that later.

What can i do to make him see my pov.

What about a different style of photographer? Alot of them can do very different stuff from the old fashioned "stand in line with all the relatives" shots. Would he perhaps go for something like that? Would you be happy with that as a compromise? I'm trying to remember the names of the other styles - I think "reportage" is one?

why not compramise, most photographers offer a magazine type package where most of the photos are informal and snap shots of the day, but then you can still have a few staged photos of you and your H2B x

how about you make a compromise, saying that you'll only have say, 5 posed shots, and then have the photographer snap away during the day without you even noticing, i often think that unposed photos are much more special!! :P
I def think you shouldnt give in about the photos cos they are sooo important!! :P
    good luck x x

tell him you can both have that time mingling and talking to people. It'll take that long for everyone to congratulate you! Some of the best wedding photos I've seen haven't been posed at all! Can you say the photographer will just take natural shots and not make him pose at all?? If he hates photos that much, they'll probably turn out better if they are natural shots :-/

You don't have to pose for a single photo if you don't want to. Photographers will work around what you want and need. And the new thing is to have them there but they are just in the background and take photos when people aren't aware, so the result are really beautiful and natural photographs and in a way more special as he/she will capture you and your h2b all loved up and not at all staged. Obviously if YOU want to have a few photos all staged then he has to realise he is being slightly unreasonable as it is your day too and they are memories that you want to look back on for the rest of your life. Hope it all works out for you huni. x

Find a photographer that specialises in reportage photography, that is the type where there is no posing and they just capture photos throughout the day. You would still end up with some traditional shots because you would get those of you both saying your vows and probaby of signing the register too. For those people who you definitely want photos of, you just provide a list of the people you want. Definitely one to look into - and it can't hurt to ask.

We are having a videograper instead, his assistant also takes loads of digital pics, so perhaps just get them to do the 5 you want as well as all your f+f bringing their cameras you should end up with loads of lovely piccies hun. its hard but i think you need to make him compromise as it is a very important reminder of the day xxx

It sounds like rather than you both warring over the issue, perhaps you both need to meet a few photographers and let him voice his concerns/hates to them, and let them put you both at ease with what they can do to cater for both your desires regarding photography....

Do you have a wedding fair coming up locally you could maybe drag him to?

Definitely meet your photographer before the day. Or do you have a friend/someone you're H2B feels comfortable around who could take some shots?

What about placing disposable cameras on the tables? None of those would be staged and you never know what they might capture!

Hope you sort things out soon.

Would he allow any of the guests to take pictures? Maybe someone is a budding photographer and would love to take some staged pics of you. Might make him feel better about it?? (I still think an official person, even to do fun/group/natural shots would be needed...)

I am like your H2B, I hate posed shots and look awful in everyone.
Someone is booking and paying for a photographer for us, so we have compromised and said just parent and couple staged shots then everything else relaxed and informal.
I know I would regret not having any at all and I see your other halfs point of view. Stop messaging him and wait to talk to him properly as things never sound right in a message!

Im kind of in the same situation except mine doesnt want a videographer
Just try to find the cheapest you can and cut back where you can so your still within budget then you can say to him look i have this much left in the budget so can we have these photographers?
As for not liking photos taken we are BOTH the same so we have gone with someone who doesnt do the 'POSED' shots instead she follows you round and gets everything natural so your unaware shes actually there!
Her work is amazing so hopefully she'll work her magic with us too, good luck hunni

Wow, this is the biggest 'photographic' day of his life, he wont ever spend as much on photography again proabaly, he should just leave it to the pros who are well used to being told this. I can't remember a single client ever saying they love having their picture taken, this is why hiring a pro is essential - most spend more time with the bride than the groom does. Now-a-days (I have been shooting for over 20 years) the reportage style is what happens, wheather asked for it or not, as digital photography is made for it. Couldn't do this in the film days as was too expensive. Reportage is just story telling in pictures, afterall that's what the days is photographically a love story. Having said all of that, all my clients who start by saying "I don't like my picture being taken" or "I don't like posed photos" etc... always - without fail, on the day, ask for them :) There are many wedding photo styles, if you are interested my blog has a description of them, which I wrote for a local magazine last year... ************ have a read through it will give you a lot of information. Wedding photography often gets a bad wrap - mainly due to the amateurs who dont know what they are doing - however, it is still the hardest form of photography to do well..

Please please remember (or probably convey to h2b), that if you remove the romance and honeymoon (lets just do that for sake of arguement) then the wedding is all about what you see, the 'show' if you will i.e. the dress, the suites, the flowers, the car, the venues, even the food its all about how it looks, and you want it to look great - more importantly you want to remember it. Why would anyone not want a professional photographic record? These images are historic records, an heirloom for your decendents....

    My 2 cents anyway?

    Steve

Find someone whose images look like they aren't posed.
I think the fear most have is a camera being pointed in their direction. I'm a photographer and hate having my picture taken...go figure.

If you were to present him with a tog who is more informal reportage likely outcome is your h2b will be cool with the idea.

Unfortunately most photographers pose, stage and make their presence all too obvious during the day. You want someone who looks like they were camped out 4 metres away when they took the shot....and it will show in their pictures.

I am pleased you finally got him to agree to the photos. With the price of an average wedding, the photos are a small part of the overall cost and yet they are the only things you have to look back at.
As people above have said, the right photographer (check my site!), will be able to get relaxed, reportage style images which reflect the day perfectly and allow you both to relax.
Hope it all goes well for you.
Insist on a pre-weddig shoot, it does help.
