For my bouquet I'm wanting a small bunch of Gypsophila (baby's breath). I dont want anything fancy, i want it to look quite country and laid back.
Can I just ask for a small bunch of this at any florist? and any ideas on prices? Ive not yet been to any florists but have checked out the main ones online but they only do options of big bouquets or big bunches...
Im in bristol, if anyone can reccomend anywhere?x

If thats all you want have you thought of going to a wholesaler and making it yourself? Sounds lovey by the way.

Glitterpix I am also on the verge of ditching the bouquets I have made for my bridesmaids in favour of Gyp bouquets, they are so gorgeous, simple, delicate & elegant. I love them. Gyp is around £1 per bunch and in a bridal bouquet I imagine you would need 4-5 bunches.....plus their mark-up! but if you can do it yourself or a friend could do it then its a cheap bouquet really.
I can resist anything but temptation

Yeah I was thinking of just buying a few bunches, and just tying some tulle around them
I think I'll go to my local florist and see if I can just have a few bunches and pick the up on the morning (not getting married til 2.30) not really keen on saying its for a wedding as i know they mark up as soon as you mention it!

I'm having gypsophilia for my little flower girls and hopefully for the centre pieces too. Its simple and elegant
its a really cheap way of doing it, so much so its not too expensive to have a try out beforehand is it? then you wouldknow exactly how much you will need for each bouquet......
Hmmmmmmmmm, thinking now

i'm thinking about Gypsophila bouquets for my BMs too, at a recent wedding fair there was a sample and I asked the florist how much i would expect to pay for it and she said £40!!!! I reiterated it was that bouquet, not a fancy one with other flowers and she confirmed £40. Her prices of other bouquets seem around average to other florists I've checked out too.
I Bought a couple of bunches just to have a play with but because the stems have smaller stems coming off at the top, I reckon you'd likely need at least 10 bunches, as to make it as tight as the bouquet shown above, you'll need to trim it to make it neat too.
Given that, I think you can get a bunch from flower stalls for around a £1 each, which is £10 per bouquet (plus however much you buy to practice with).
Would be great to see if anyone does a successful sample bouquet!

Gyp is stunning! I read an article on it on a wedding blog a few weeks ago - if I hadn't decided on my flowers at that point, I would definitely have been swayed by it!

They look lovely, but doesn't gyp smell? Think I read that somewhere?

Forgot to say Marie I found that florists that go to wedding shows have a minimum price for wedding bouquets but they do have to pay quite a bit to be at exhibitions. When I went to local florists that dont do exhibitions I found them alot cheaper x

I don't think it smells... Atleast ive never been able to smell anything!
I'm going to check out the local florist on tues and see what she can do... BUT, my local asda is selling big bunches of it at the moment for £2.00! So hopefully they'll still be doing it next week!
Although, my mum is nagging me saying "you're not supposed to have gyp on its own, its just filler"... I want it on it's own!

I don't think Ive ever smelt it either? If you want it on it's on go for it! I think it would look lovely.
If you have a local market I would try there, you'll probably get a better price than from a shop. My florist works from a market stall and this is one she has done.

check out markets to my local markets always have bunches for sale usually cheaper then shops to and the you can make it up yourself. im sure if you asked them they would let you preorder the amount you need so that you know its there the day you need it.

OK, got a quote today from a local florist, they said they can do it at £1.50 a stem! So, how many stems do you think I'd need?!xx

It depends how big you want your bouquet to be, maybe go in and ask them to put a few stems together then you can get an idea x
CommentAuthorFuture mrs mac
