hi everyone me and h2b have decided that we need to reduce costs and the only way to do it is to reduce the guest list. we origionally have 120 guests and we have sent save the dates out to the familys that we have invited, is it ok to not invite someone we have sent a save the date to or at least not invite their plus one, obviously for people who wont know anyone we will still invite their plus one but for families ie cousins is it ok not to invite their plus one if they are not married or engaged, just we are trying to cull the guest list by 20-30 and reduce the catering bill by 2k

    opinions please

We are not inviting plus ones to my cousins as we have only room for 80. So its family and close friends only. Then partners in the evening. When you send out invites include a not saying due to budget and room we are having a close family and friends only to the day and everyone else in the evening. Obviously not in them words but thats what we are doing. But depends on your family really are they understanding or like mine just plain annoying!! Lol

it does sound silly that we need to reduce the cost by 2k but i have cut the budget else where as we need to reduce our wedding by 5k simply because we have to buy a house next year 3 months before the wedding.

our wedding is already saved we have had the money in the bank for some time i had an inhertiance off an uncle and my h2b has had money from when his dad died when he was a kid which has sat in the bank gaining intrest and put it away for the future plus both parents are contributing too but now we need to buy a house to we need some for the deposit (as our house is being sold)

our catering is £85 per person but that includes a 3 course meal canapes and 3 drinks at reception, a bottle of wine for each guest and bottle of water for each guest at the meal, evening food, and 4 drinks at the evening reception, so not bad when you look at what we actually get,

Reduce the drinks package- most of that won't be drunk. Seriously.

not an option dove that comes as standard thats there price £85 for all that or the other package come in at £165 for a 5 course meal 6 canapes 3 drinks at canape reception, premium bottle of wine and bottle of water for each guest evening food 4 drinks at the evening reception candleabras their stationary and free honeymoon suite, so the drinks are identical otherwise i would do this

Why not invite everyone still, but reduce the numbers for the sit down meal. You have sent save the dates but that doesn't imply they are invited for the whole day. Send out your evening invites and say they can come to the ceremony if they wish. Just make it clear whether they can come to the formal reception or just the party.xx

If i got a STD card then did not get an invite - i would be pretty miffed TBH - unless you are inviting them to your evening reception instead of the full day?

If you have to cut your guest list then you have to do it.

because our families live down south in london and kent and we live up north we had to invite the familes all day as i know i wouldnt go just for the night do. my friends are up north his friends are down south. all we have done in the save the date is on the envlope was to write for example .... the wilsons... what we meant was aunt uncle 3 cousins and there plus ones.... so i was thinking just to invite the aunt the uncle the 3 cousins and not their plus ones (if they are not married or engaged) we werent going to have an evening do as such as our evening do has to finish at 11pm and everyone must be out by 11pm (venues rules) but i dont mind as we are marrying at 12.30 in the afternoon!!

Are the cousins adults? Do you see them often? If not, and you haven't specifically said they are invited, keep them on a reserve list.

our sit down meal is going to come to a minimum of £8,500 (minimum £100 per head!)

i'd see who replies first and who are the closest people to you and then do as Dove says, keep them on a reserve list! x

we are having 85 adults (including 2 over 4 year old children) and 2 2year olds who we don't have to pay for in the day and then we are planning on inviting an extra 60 for the evening!! x

I think it's fine not to invite plus 1's if they are attending with family who will also be there without partners. I would also say it's fine if you have never met their plus 1.

That said, it can cause a bit of tension so good luck :-)
