Just wondered if anyone is paying for a hotel room for their guests. I feel as if some people expect me to or probably won't come unless we do. What everyone's opinions?

I have never been to a Wedding where the rooms are paid for. If you include information on the cost of the rooms then people will know that they have to pay for their own rooms. I am sure that people will know that you're not paying for their rooms also. I mean you've already paid for the whole Wedding day, which may include some drinks and food. If they can't afford to stay at your chosen venue maybe include details of some cheaper hotels and perhaps call them to see if they will give you a discounted price if more people stay there. Always worth asking.

We're not paying for our guests rooms & I think most of our guests will be staying near the venue (My family are from South Yorkshire, h2b's family are from Lincolnshire & we're getting married in Staffordshire! - long story!! lol!!). We're just gonna pop a guest info card in with the invites, letting people know where they can stay, which will hopefully imply that they have to book & pay themselves without sounding rude!! lol! x x x

Just realised you're getting married abroad. I am going to a friends Wedding in Cyprus in 2012, and I expect to pay to get there and for my accommodation. They will be payiing for everything on the actual Wedding day.

No we couldnt afford to.Our guests are travelling to scotland so we have said we will host a dinner on the friday night (and pay) as well as the wedding breakfast and evening buffet. The rooms include breakfast so they will only have to pay for rooms and drinks for the whole weekend. Also we paid for a more expensive wedding package per head as it included the guests getting their rooms for 50% less.
I provided details of the room prices and agreed to book for everyone at the venue, I also provided details of some cheaper alternatives nearby.
We arent having hen and stag dos as we know its costing everyone to come to the wedding as its a whole weekend not just a day.

They were paying for their own until we realised that they come in the wedding package that they are free. Our children stay free as they are under 12 and its only €20 supplement for kids over 12.

I think we might pay for the MOH, best man and Bms rooms, we are asking them to stay 2 nights so I think it is fair that we stump up some of the money! But they aren't expecting it and to be honest if the budget keeps running away with me then not sure we will be able to pay for both nights.... Everyone else is paying for their own rooms.

With our venue we are hiring a castle for 2 nights and it sleeps 28 people in total on the estate and we are charging people £100 for the two nights, two breakfasts and a BBQ the night before the wedding.
No one has complained about that as our second choice option was a hotel that charges £160 a night with no breakfast so they are getting a bit of a bargain!

NO WAY!! as everyone says weddings are expensive enough, our family is everywhere and the hotel we have chosen is £100 a night to stay in so we have loads of cheaper options in with the invites for the people that are travelling. We have also set up a website and will put all the info on there and they can check out local hotels ect xx

we cannot afford to pay for anyones room, if they want to stay so that they dont have to drive, then they are going to have to pay for themselves I am afraid, its at least £50 per night so it would end up doubling our budget if we started paying for people that had to travel x

The village we´re in only has one hotel, our venue and it is tiny, only has four rooms so we´re paying for those rooms and that´s where me, my nana and my BMs will be staying the night before the wedding. That´s as far as accommodation for guests is going for us really, after that it all gets beyond the realm of confusion but we´re figuring it out and trying to find ways to keep the costs down for our guests.

The nearest hotel is about 30 mins away (we´re marrying literally in middle of nowhere lol). We´re going to suggest that everyone with cars is welcome to hire cars at the airport and we´ll give them information for the local hotels so they can book hotels nearby. Everyone else will be staying in local villas, the going rate is about 800pounds a week to rent a 3 bed villa, so for a couple of days shouldn´t be more than about 200pounds and that will either be for a family of up to 6-7, and we´re going to suggest that couples without children stay three couples per villa, so splitting the cost between them all.

It´s taking some effort to arrange but we´re doing it.. slowly.

No - we just couldn't afford it. We're getting married at Gretna - and at 2.45pm. So we're paying for the reception and a welcome drink (wine) - the guests just have to find their accommodation and drink costs. Breakfast is included with their rooms.

everyone else can stay at the hotel or the premiar inn up the road if they want to

We are paying for the wedding party to stay. THis will include my parents, h2b parents, bridesmaids and partners and best man and partner. I really want them to be there the next morning therefore we are paying for it.

Most other guests will arrange their own hotel accommodation, but we have chosen somewhere that not much travel is needed and will be putting on a coach for those that don't want to stay. :-) x

I was quite shocked to find out that my sister has paid for our room for her wedding...I had never heard of this before (other than maybe for BMs and parents) ... needless to say I wont be offering the same hospitality to my guests, just cant afford it. We have however booked a room for our MoH. As both sets of parents live locally, they will be trotting off home after the reception!

We've booked all 34 bedrooms at our venue and about 16 of them will be completely paid for as these will be for the bridal party and the remaining ones will be subsidised by us!!! xxx

My mum also wants to provide a free bar but i told her she doesnt know how some of our friends drink!!! lol

It's my mums old fashioned ways!!! Although if we did have a free bar, our wedding will be the one talked about FOREVER!!!!!!! so I am trying to persuade Dad its a fab idea!!! :) lol

no, people can stay in our hotel or not, but I'm not paying. I am prepared to pay for my mum and h2b's mum, but no one else. Even then I told my mum yesterday that I'd booked her room and she is STILL insisting she pays...well, I tried, but that is one woman I'm not going to mess with!
