Hey sorry if I sound about out of order or anything but I am the same age as you, although I turn 21 in December. I had my son when I was just 17 I was working at the time and was made redundant two weeks after they found out I was pregnant. I then went out and got myself another job while pregnant. When my son was 6 months old I was applying for every job I could and it took me untill he was one before I got one. Then they messed me about giving me the long shifts 11am till 11pm sometimes midnight by the time I'd finished the call I was on. As they messed me about so much I decided we'd have another child before getting myself a permanent full time Job My daughter is now 7 months and I have again been applying for work from the time she was 4 months old. I couldnt have before this as my midwife and doctor told me I couldnt for my health as I had a section and it went wrong with me leaking spinal fluid. I am NOT on benefits as my partner works full time we have £600 a month rent to pay £200 a month for our car not including petrol. Then we have gas electric and food on top. I also have bad depression. But I cant find work anywhere as soon as they know my age and that I have kids it seems to put them off. Basically what Im trying to say is not all young people with kids are just after the benefits they can get. x

To be fair, they say that if you have a child you get the house and the benefits and everything is easy.... its not! Especially if your OH works. When we had our little one, yes we got a little money in benefits but I would have had more had I been able to keep working, and because my h2b earned some money (full time on minimum wage so not a lot of money) we weren't eligible for help with housing even though we were living in one room in my mothers house. We spend three years after that just about managing with money enough to live in a one bedroom flat in a rough part of town. It isn't all peachy when you have children and people should stop building the myth that it is.

I know what it is like to suffer from depression, you just have to keep trying with the job interviews and go and find help if you need it. I hope that things turn out well for you, keep trying to smile, its hard but its worth it in the end.

I totally understand you as I'm struggling with money at the moment but please don't think that you get everything paid for just coz you have children!!! I have 3 year old twin boys, I CAN'T work (even though I'd love to coz I worked hard to qualify as a nursery nurse) because I can't afford childcare costs! Now I'm not working I get bare minimum off tax credits because I've got a partner! The government don't do anything to help anyone these days so you're not alone! Hope you manage to find a job soon x

I think the rant was just that, sarahbelle feeling very frustrated and ranting. I think to make those generalisations though is frustrating for all the (not just young) parents out there who work damn hard. Yes there is a minority of young people who seem to have children for the house and the benefits, but they are just that, a minority!

I am 27 now, i fell pregnant at 16 and had a real nightmare.... the benefits system isnt all its cracked up to be and my daughter was over 1 before i got housed anywhere, in the mean time i had been living in a hostel. They dont magically come along and house you just because you have a baby. I was in a hostel because i had left foster care and was on the council list anyway because of my circumstances.... but i still had to wait.

I have 2 children and work full time, my h2b works full time as well, we dont get any help or assistance with anything... what we want we pay for. If you moved out and was living with your partner who works you would still get very little even if you had a child, because your partner works and the benefits are mostly there for people who dont, yeah sure you would get some form of tax credit, but that is for raising a child.
I just really dont see how a rant can be targetted at how much easier things would be with a baby? because it really isnt that easy.

Im 25, have 2 kids 4yr old & 2yr old. i work full time which is a pain in the a$$ because i work sometimes until 10pm. I dont have anyone to collect my little girl from school at 3pm, so me & h2b have to work shifts around each othr which means we hardly get time together!!!

We dont get any tax credits because of h2bs wage, we pay out a mortgage, car, food, petrol, bills & £600 private nursery every month.

I would gladly cut my hours to be there for my kids more but becuse the way th ystem is i aint entitled to a penny if i do cut my hours!!!

I was a single parent with my little girl & i worked full time, i didnt sit on benefits then

the job centre have said if i had a child i would be better off money wise but obviously it isnt that simple at least this way i can see/hear it isnt all it is cracked up to be.

i have miscarried my baby 'hope' when she was 10 weeks old in january 2010 and then i miscarried my 9 week old twins 'leo' 'phoebe' in july 2010 i would of had my baby/babies if this world wasn't cruel.
