I have had loads of problems lately with our venue of choice, reading outside reviews and families experiences which lead me to cancel our venue and strugge for 2 days stressing whether we will find somewhere or not, as everywhere I was trying I was pretty much 'late booking'... For August next year! So I did get good news and get my money back that I paid for the deposit and accompanying that was news that I may have a possible venue for next year and its beautiful, the food is beautiful, staff are well mannered and pleasant... When it comes to asking my dad for ANYTHING youve got no hope. I phoned to ask if he could take me to go and view it so I could hopefully put my deposit down and get things started up again, and he laughs down the phone and says, thats a 50 minute drive there and 50 minutes back, so from hearing this I said it doesnt matter I will ask my Liam (brother) and straight away he says "you want to make sure you at least give him £20 for petrol" ... Everything is money with this man! Im his daughter, getting married and he doesnt do anything to help bearing in mind hes finished work by 1pm and does nothing the rest of the day!! He really frustrates me, but luckily I wont be handing over any money as my mums best friend, bless her soul, is going to take us to go and view and help us ask the right questions!! Family, eh!!

I know, its so annoying to go on like this, not being able to rely on your own dad! Ive tried to say, well dad I would appreciate it if you could help me out, but it never works, but as soon as I mention about giving him money to do it, he'll do it then! I dont mind giving him money, but I mean, he's family, I wouldnt do that to even my friends never mind my family! xx

Good news about venue. I don't think your dad is out of order for wanting petrol money, if he is willing to take you that is really nice of him. Petrol ain't cheap no more. X

I dont want to sound ungrateful, but he never helps out with anything, it could be pouring with rain and im stuck somewhere he wont help. Its not nice to know that you cant rely on someone! :(

really glad about possible new venue. it's a shame your dad is like this with you. I am in a similar situation with my dad. He never makes the effort to contact me, or even come to see me when he visits the rest of the family. Then he complains if i don't speak to him for a few weeks at a time because i am busy with work, shifts never make it to keep in touch with people.
I told him about getting married and he said that's nice and nothing else since.
I don't blame you for feeling the way you do and your not been ungrateful at all.

Firstly, congrats on getting a new venue sorted - I can only imagine how stressful that must have been. It's disappointing about your dad, but at least he's not being malicious. A lot of people don't particularly like weddings and even more don't understand why it takes so long to plan a wedding nowadays. I'd try to take no notice of him, it sounds like you've got people around you who are interested in your planning and we are always here to talk to too x
