Can anyone advise on how long my speech should be? I've read it through twice it it clocks in at just ove ten minutes long. Is that too long?

It might be a littlw too long, but depends how many other speech makers you have. If there are best man, father of the bride, sometime bride too, then people do tend to get restless. x
the average according to "grooms best friend website" is 2-5 mins long there is a list of things that should be included i.e who you thank, something about the bride etc generally the main speech is the best man so the others should try and keep it to a minimum but obviously there is no hard and fast rule so its up to you!! just watch out for people starting to get disinterested restless people become a pain lol

Thanks ladies!
I had a feeling it was too long, but I'll ask my best man. Basically, it will be best man, lizzie's uncle, dad, and myself

Just remember the first words that come out of your mouth in the speech are something along the lines of 'My wife and I would like to thank you all for coming' make sure your refer to her as your wife within the first sentence and she will love you and people will be thinking how sweet but I would say for the groom 5-8 minutes is a reasonable time same for FOB best man maybe 5 min xx

really cathryn you think less for the best man? he normally does the most i thought tells the stories etc i have never been to a wedding so i dont know but always thought best man has the longest part in the speeches then groom does the thankyous and of course compliment his bride (interesting for me as my h2b 's idea of compliment is "your spots are clearing up" or "they dont make your bum look big your bum IS big2 lol)

Sounds like you've put a lot of time & effort into your speech, but people may get a little restless after the first few minutes. Rather than cut a whole heap of it and have it go to waste, why not put it in a card or letter to your wife, something she can treasure forever? Then the sentiment isn't lost, she knows what you want to say (and let's face it, she's the most important person you're talking to when you give your speech) and the guests are kept happy :-)

well, my BM will do the lion's share. I've got it down to about five minutes now.
