We're getting married in Gretna Green. We're having the ceremony at the Gretna Hall Linton Suite (a small wedding of just 20 of us) and having the reception at the Solway Lodge in Gretna. We used the Gretna Wedding Bureau and used one of their customised packages. The wedding car we got cheaper though - but got the ceremony, photographer and ministers fee all in as a package. I can't fault them if you decide to do it - they're very helpful and friendly and explain anything you're stuck with. Would definitely recommend them.
From my experience, as a local, visiting Gretna for shopping etc., it is VERY touristy so only bok your wedding there if you don't mind bus loads of tourists oggling your big day. Its not that private and its a bit conveyor-belt ish. D

Oops...for some reason the message posted itsself before I was finished! Lol! I was about to add...it depends what you want your big day to be. Its a traditional place for a wedding and its all totally geared up for it. I guess there are pro's and cons xx

We stayed over there at the end of January for my birthday so we could have a proper look and get a feel for the place. We visited the Gretna Hall and the man there even let us have a look at the room where we're having our ceremony - and even explained the full ceremony to us - so friendly. I did think initially that it might be conveyor belt like - but I've heard a lot of feedback from people married there and they've said it's not like that.
It'd definitely more scenic than Leeds Town Hall anyway lol. We visited the reception venue while we were there as well (well had dinner there and decided to enquire about reception packages as we were so impressed with the food and service). The manager (Ian) gave us a full tour of the hotel and answered any questions. We looked over the menus and pamphlets he gave us - and decided that's where we wanted. We're going back up 3 months before the wedding to put our forms in to the register office - and finalise the hotel/restaurant payments etc. It'll be May (next year) so we'll probably get a more realistic picture of a typical Saturday up there.
