i know a lot of jewelers suggest soap and hot water but I tried this to no avail. I was then told a toothbrush but this was too big. The brilliant solution to get right inbetween the diamond and the clasp was to use the inter-dental brushes for braces that are so small they can easily get into all the nooks and crannies and the diamond shines unbelievably well. It is like new. Only cost 1.20. Just thought id share it with you if you have a piece of diamond jewelery but be careful dont do this to the platinum etc, just the diamond itself.

cant you just take them back to the jewllers. When we bought my engagement ring they told us that we can take it in for free cleaning whenever we wanted.

for the sake of 1.20 I just thought it was easy but when u do go for it please be careful not to get the metal itself. they are hard brushes and so are perfect for diamonds but thats it. Im going to try to get in the habit once a week as the design of my ring means that all sorts of soap etcd gets stuck and it really does make a difference as now the light can actually get through.

Suzky123 - You are right to advise caution when using the inter-dental brushes - they can cause damage if used too aggressively. The centre of these brushes is often a steel wire which can scratch the metal. Gentle cleaning is always best.
Pushing the brush in behind the stones can cause them to become loose and fall out. Diamonds aren't glued in - they are held by very small amounts of the metal around them so it is possible to dislodge them. Be careful everyone!

I go to an independant jeweller in town who does it for a £3 donation to the Burns unit in honour of the Bradford City fire (we live in Bradford). I dont mind putting some money in a charity box every now and then and coming out with a really sparkly ring!
