I lost my dad 7 years ago and know that when I get married it will be very hard not having him there. My grandad (my dad's dad) will be giving me away and I am stuck for ideas of our first dance together, something that has meaning but is easy to dance to. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My friend also said that it's tradition for the bride not to make a speech, but I really wanted to, to mention my dad, thank my grandad for giving me away, as well as mention some other people and thank my mum who has helped me a lot with planning the wedding. Can I break tradition and do a speech?

You don't have to be traditional at all. It's your day, do whatever you like x

I've bumped the official speech thread for you.

I done a speech at our wedding as I had people that had helped me and I wanted to show my appreciation. If you want to do one, then do it,

Thanks for your suggestions, I think I will do a speech. Any suggestions on music for my dance with my grandad?

Would it be too difficult to dance to Luther Vandros Dance with my Father? Such an great song with lovely words, but it might be too emotional to dance too

I did consider the Luther Vandros song but think it might be a bit too much and emotional. But can't think of any other songs

I know what you mean, gets me every time. Is there a song that your dad really liked that you could dance with your grandad to?

Also in regards to the speech, do what works for you. It may not be considered "traditional", but I think things like that are a bit outdated nowadays. You want to say a few words? You do it! I'm doing a speech at mine as I just have to tell everyonehow my OH hated me to start with lol!
