I am having my son who is 18yrs old to give me away along with my 3 daughters as bridesmaid and my grandson as page boy. My son is very quiet and I know there is no way he is going to stand up in front of people, regardless if he knows them, and speak to say a speech, he has even said he isnt doing it and I dont want to push him into doing anything that is going to make him uncomfortable. However my daughter who is 20 is different and I have asked her to make the speech instead of my son....she was fine but then said she doesnt know what to say and then appeared to say she wouldnt be able to do it. Though i have talked her round as like i said she is completely different to my son! I was also wondering if I could have my best friend to make a speech....As i know this is mine and my H2B's day so what we want we can have! The best man is making a speech (god help) just need someone from my side to do one

My brother, who is also 18 is giving me away. I'm not sure if he's doing a speech or not but I don't mind if he doesn't. I don't feel anyone from my side has to make a speech on my behalf.

I don't see why not. I'm sure your best friend would be honoured to make a speech :)

If she is happy to give a speech I don't see why not. Like you said it's your day do it your way. You said you want someone from your side, have you considered doing a speech yourself plenty of brides do so these days x

My brother is giving me away, hes 22 - he's absolutely papping himself at the thought, hes said hes going to record a speech and mime. trouble is, im not actually sure if hes joking or not!

Dont see a problem in your friend giving a speech, my friend mentioned it, told her im not fussed whether she decides she wants to or not when we were talking about it, she can either choose to butt in and say a word, or just not. :)

My dad is giving me away and he won't do a speech either. He says he can't thank people for coming when he hasn't invited them. He also won't know half of them so my MOH is doing it instead.

My 21 year old son is giving me away, he said he would do a speech and I was gobsmacked as he's so shy and quiet. We had a surprise 21st meal for him with family and friends when asked to do a speech he just stood up and said, "thanks everyone for coming and for a great night" and sat down he was so embarrassed. But if he had decided he didn't want to do a speech then I would be fine with that. You can have whoever you want to do a speech, and I think having your best friend is a lovely idea xx

My mum is giving me away but she won't do a speech. So it'll be just h2b and best man. Saves on all the embarassing stories about me ;) I keep toying with the idea of doing one and saying thank you to my mum for all the things she's done for me and still is although she's been through so much herself recently. I'm not a good public speaker and I tend to mumble lol

My son is giving me away, he will be 16 by then. I asked him about doing a speech and he's said he won't do one so I'm going to bring up the subject again nearer the time, maybe he will change his mind. If not we'll just have the bm and h2b doing speeches. I couldn't do one, I'd just cry all the way through it!
