aww hun how unfair its same with my mil2b she has'nt even offered help us with wedding and there loaded just winds me up when my mum and dad are skint are r doing there best with nothing lol put it one way at least wont have thank them for anything xxx

We never got an engagment present from h2b's parents. They haven't offered any help towards the wedding, in fact, they haven't even said that they're going to come ... even though we've asked his stepdad to do a reading. Not sure we even got a congrats from them!

We have not got a present of any of our family. I dont see the problem

we got a few bottles of wine and champagne chocs and things. most people didnt buy for us tho. am just really glad neary everone was happy for us =).. and i loed getting lots of cards cos i ca keep them. am sre she doesnt mean any harm by it, politely suggest that she shud arrange that meal soon.. xx

How I read it.....I think it is the point the MIL2b has said she would do something and has not, rather than Becky wanting a gift from her IL2b. My Mil2b offered us all sorts when we got engaged but after the cake debarcle I doubt she will offer again which is fine by me. In fact if she does offer h2b and I have decided the money would go towards something she could not attempt to control such as the honeymoon. We both agree that she sees it as a way to 'buy in' to the wedding

yeh ok i see that ur not meanin it that ur miffed u havnet got a gift rather than she said something and didnt follow through...tbh my memory is so crap its unreal and if i offered someone something it would most likelyb e forgotten in a couple of days! dont take it to heart!
tbh i was miffed at my birthday when i got engaged...we only got 1 engaement pressie whereas when it was my brothers one a year later they got lots..its not the fact about gifts..i dont see why we got nothing when another brother got! sounds selfish but i didnt see the reasoning for! :S

All my family bought us cards (not one gift). We didn't get one card of h2bs family. (Apparently people don't send cards for engagements anymore!)
I will have my moment tho (wedding day aside of course) When I collaborate my wedding memory book and openly show it to them with engagement cards at the front.

We got lots of cards from family and friends and my grandma sent me a cheque for £100 to go towards the wedding. I think if I were you I would give up on the meal, doesn't sound like it is going to happen and if you brought it up it could be very awkward :-( xxx

We didn't get so much as a card from anyone.....in fact when we first announced our engagement we got "Are you sure about this?" from my mum (not said in a bad way, due to circumstances, long story) and the MIL threatened to disown Ross :S

I wouldn't get upset about it. Yes it's upsetting at the time but you'll look back and wonder why you were so angry. Chances are she's forgotten

i dont think you needto get in a huff about it as it does come across as stamping of feet &and i want my present. be grateful they even thought about it ......why dont you call and suggest going out for your belated meal

yes i am glad about being happy its not that she aint done what she said! its just that if we dont get her a anniversary crad/present she goes of fin a huff lol

awww becca thats not nice! howevr h2b mum doesnt spend much on him on bday ro xmas while she spends loads of his brother n sister!

I'd never mention anything to her about it, it's up to her whether she gets you a present or not or takes you for a meal, she may of only suggested taking you for a meal as she could pick and choose where and when and it's easier for her pocket, she might just not have the money to do it which is fair enough.
Material thing's mean nothing to me and that's why my parents brought us keep sakes, what get's me is that h2b's mum can afford it and we only got a card because she knew we were visiting. It doesn't take much thought and when you don't feel like they are actually happy for you a card could make all the difference lol
I'm sure she's very happy for you though Becky and there's reason's behind not taking you out yet, maybe she has just forgot but I wouldn't risk bringing it up with her as it may be a money issue and you don't want to embarrass her.
Maybe take her out for a meal! It could tweek her memory and she ends up paying, if not at least you've all celebrated anyway xx

I shouldnt worry about it hun, if it happens its a bonus, if it doesnt then its not worth getting upset about it. No-one made a big fuss when we got engaged, my mum gave us a book of love poems and H2Bs parents got us some cute salt and pepper pots but I dont think people really get much when they get engaged these days unless they have a big party!

Again got nothing and wasnt bothered, the most important thing out of it all was my h2b asked me to marry him and i wouldnt swap any gift for that!

I think just kinda forget about it too, then if u get one it will be lovely if not its no worries.

We didnt get anything but then we didn't have a celebration except for a meal between ourselves.
