Do any of you just feel like you're going to go a bit loopy? We've been planning our big day for a while before I found this site and it has helped by far! But then we've had so many ups and downs and my head is going crazy. Really want to pay our booking fee of £600 at the end of this month, but then have just got the news that Daz (h2b) may or may not lose his job through redundancy (again) this September. I don't know what to do!? Book and cancel if all fails, or don't book and then him end up keeping his job and us leaving it too last minute to have it when we want it? Also scared in case he does be made redundant again! Its all awful have too much on my head! Sorry for the slight rant? But I feel like I'm going crazy with all this!
Thank you :) xx

We had the same situation, h2b might still be made redundant in March but we have kept booking stuff. The show must go on!! x
Love: A wildly misunderstood, although highly desirable,
malfunction of the heart.
37 Pounds down, 22 pounds to go! I will be a skinny bride!
28th March 2014 will be the day I marry my best friend.

hi Tattty, do you think so? I realy want to keep on because Im pretty much set with everything all thats left to do is stuff closer to the time, wedding rings & Dazs suit everything else big and small I have planned and written to the final detail, its all written down with prices and an average "how much to save p.c.m".... So scared at the same time if he loses his job for the second time as he works in a school and really, at the minute its the most unreliable place to work!
:( xx

Is that the booking fee for the reception? I would hold onto the money and wait till you know whether he is actually being made redundant or not as fees can't be reimbursed. If he is made redundant then you could postpone and I know its a horrible thought but at least it won't put you in debt. I've spoken on numerous threads on here of how I've made savings especially on my venue and like I keep saying to people take a look at my pictures I got my venue including food for £900 because I bargained them down. My motto is if you don't ask you don't get and don't be afraid to ask for reductions and freebies as you could surprise yourself with what you can do. My biggest price drop was getting rid of the expensive sit down meal and opting for a buffet. This is not everyone's cup of tea I know but its just an example to show that tweaks here and there can be worthwhile financially.
I have a budget wedding but it won't look cheap. It can be achieved :-) by the way I was made unemployed in October but before that I got pregnant accidentally and I'm due in 7 weeks and the wedding is still going ahead.

Yeah when my partner lost his job the first time I was pregnant with our son, who is now 2! TIme goes nowhere, We are having a sitty down meal, but mainly because its the only thing out of the whole day that my partner actually wants im trying to cater for both our dreams and wants an the only thing he has his heart set on is our meal, and the school need him so bad but its not down to whether they need him anymore, its if they can "afford" to keep him... I really dont want to cancel and yeah the booking fee is the deposit and comes off the total cost all my figures I have obviously goes round both our wages! He earns more than me as I work 15 hours and he works 7-4 and at the minute is currently doing plenty of overtime to get in some extra pennies, everything else I have pretty much not skimped but got at decent prices my brides maid dresses from Ebay and my bridesmaids think ive been into bridal stores to buy them and my sons wedding suit is also from ebay, and Im pretty much debating whether to get my dress from there too?!
It makes me feel so low that we cant even plan anything :( xx
I felt that way for a long while too but it isn't all bad :-) he hasn't been made redundant yet and he might not be so there's still hope on that front. Lately I've been thinking of starting up my own work from home small business as I've hit on an idea that I am convinced I would be good at and as I will be at home all day with the baby I will have plenty of time to set up and get earning. Is there anything at all that you guys can do from home or whatever if he is laid off? Can he advertise himself as a handyman/ gardener/ etc with a free business page on the book of face or other places? Does he drive? Are either of you creative in any way?
Sometimes losing a job isn't the end of the world, more like the start of a new chapter :-)

tbh if you want to carry on booking (and dont care the budget of the wedding, big or small) just book cheaper stuff and keep in mind the fact of what you may/may not be able to afford. if you have to trim down the cost later down the line then so be it. but as long as you enjoy then day then who cares :) xxx
So lucky to be marrying my soulmate on 18/07/20

My fiancé he would amount to nothing and was expelled from school. He's now a design engineer who designs factory machinery for Cadbury's, Nestlé etc. He never got the chance to do Alevels or anything like that. He went back to school a few years ago and last year he started in this job having spent years of going from one temporary factory floor job to another. He says there are no set backs, there are just obstacles and you can climb over them to get there if you want to. He says stuff like that to me all the time.
A few years ago I wrote a few little kids rhyming stories, nothing major. I sent them off to literary agencies and after about 18 months I got a letter back from one saying we would like to meet you etc etc. I went and I signed up with the agency. My contract ended after 2 years, I never got my stuff published and was pushed from pillar to post and eventually I gave up on the agency.
To cut a long story short, in the meantime I had hired an artist who drew my stuff digitally for £25 a page. Well one story was completely finished and he has gone back to it again to transfer it onto files that are compliant with iPads, kindles etc and its going on release in a few months. It might make money, it might not but I'm giving it my best shot as I won't know until I try. In the meantime I've come up with a plan for a small business that doesn't cost a lot to set up as I'm basically just using the utensils I already have at home anyway. My fiancé is right don't give up and always look on the bright side of life. If we all just give in because we've received a few set backs no one would ever get anywhere.

Yeah I believe in that when bad things happen there is always good stuff waiting, like finding out im all paid up on my council tax which means I now have an extra 250 saved :P haha, its the little things that you shake off thinking, oh that wont make a difference, 5pound here 10pound there, it all mounts up, thank you for your words of support its good to know all you ladies are going things or have been through things the same! I think I will just take each day as it comes and if it gets to 12months before the weding an hes unemployed then at least we would have saved for a few month and we will get by on that :) fingers crossed everything will work out in the end :) xx

Blooming council tax is a complete rip off over here. We were watching the news last night here in Peterborough and apparently some nut jobs in Lincolnshire have decided to make the people of Lincoln now pay extra to have their bins lifted Flipping disgrace! I'm from Northern Ireland and we pay well over £1000 pounds less in rates (our version of council tax) and it includes refuse disposal and water. England is rip off central when it comes to council tax though being ahead of yourself in paying is good.
Goodluck Victoria for tomorrow :-)
CommentAuthorKayleighH98
Yeah we pay £137 a month for, well nothing really! Well over a thousand a year and thats not including our rent! Which is nearly 500pcm! Then theres gas, electric, water, tv license, never ending list of paying monthly, drives me crazy! xx

Yeah my fiancé pays about £1700 a year :-( disgrace. Taxed everywhere you turn over here. I'm surprised they haven't started taxing us on the air we breathe. My blood was boiling while watching some party political broadcast by the conservatives last night, making it out like unemployment was down etc etc is it heck! Oh I just wanted to punch David Cameron right between the eyes! Anyway......... we gotta just try to keep moving somehow :-)
