    Hello,

I wasn't sure what to put this under so i went with hair/make up! Lol. I'm really short sighted and wear glasses, i've been thinking about not wearing them for the ceremony and the photos and maybe going with contacts.

Thing is i've never worn contacts and don't want to make myself more nervous on the day faffing around with them.

Just wondered if other speccy (haha) brides had worn theirs or gone without? H2b has said that he loves me with them and without (aww) and it's entirely my choice which whilst supportive isn't very helpful!

    Can't wait to be married!

you have plentry of time so go to specsavers or wherever and start getting used to them. If you dont like them, then you know its glasses. I have contacts and have never looked back. H2b is debating glasses or contacts and isnt sure so is going to do a trial run first in a month or two and if he doesnt like them then he will wear glasses.

Remember you don't want to take "you" away from the wedding. If you normally wear glasses then i'd say stick with them hun as you don't want to be a stranger on your big day. If you do want contacts then I'd suggest getting them soon as you can get used to them. I wear contacts and have had no trouble with them but i've been wearing them for 5 years now. xx

As a spec wearer since aged 8 I wore mine on my wedding day as I wanted to look like I always do as my glasses are part of me and have been for many years. If you don't get on with contacts when you trial them you could always get some pictures taken of you without your glasses on just to have some different ones. xx

I wear glasses on an everyday basis, but have daily disposables for going out, so am going to wear the contacts. You have plenty of time, go to an opticians and have a trial to see how you get on with them. I couldn't have contacts foe ages as I have dry eyes so had to wait for special lenses to be developed, and I make sure I always have eye drops with me when I'm wearing them, and also a couple of spares xx

I am extremely short sighted and have a phobia about my eyes being touched (that includes myself). I went to Specsavers and they were amazing! I ain't going to lie, it does take a bit of getting used to putting them in and taking them out, but i can do it without looking in a mirror now. I personally wouldn't like to wear glasses on my wedding day, but then again I'm probably too scarred for life from being called specky 4 eyes You could always just give it a trial and see how you feel. I can still remember how melodramatic I was when they were trying to put it in my eye and the opticion could see I was getting myself so worked up, that he said he had dropped it - when infact he had put it in my eye. It was so funny because I was so amazed that I could now see, as though my vision had been restored. I do agree though, with the other ladies about you looking like you on your wedding day as you don't want people thinking you look odd as they are used to seeing you wearing glasses.

i am very short sighted so wear glasses and monthly contacts. it does take a while to get used to the but the more you wear them the easier it is! i would never go back to not wearing contacts. i can put them in within 10 secs now for both!

i would go to specsavers or where ever you go and speak to them! i would go sooner though so you have time to get used to them xx

Also if you are going to wear your glasses it is good to mention this to your photographer (mine asked me) as this ensures when he/she takes photos that there isnt a glare or shine from your glasses as they adjust for this. xx

i've worn glasses for the last 10 years and when we booked the wedding i decided there was no way i'd wear glasses on the big day, only problem there is that i wouldnt be able to see a thing without them! lol. So anyway I've been and gotten contacts, been wearing them since christmas and they're great. Its AMAZING being able to see without wearing glasses :o) I dont wear them all the time, probably half and half but i'm really comfortable in contacts now. I'd say get yourself some, get used to them and you'll never look back xx

both me and h2b decided we didnt want to wear our glasses on the big day. we went to specsavers last week for our trial.
i will admit, they are a pain to put in at first (especially as i have stupidly long eyelashes that get in the sodding way lol). but the more u try the easier it gets.
i really would recommend doing ur trial asap so u can adjust to them
i wear glasses on a daily basis for my short sightedness and lazy left eye.
specsavers were so helpful and they give a lot of advice and tips as well as plenty of aftercare :) x

I've needed glasses since I was 8 years old and I've been wearing contacts since I was 14. I used to be terrified of anything touching my eye, but I got used to it with contacts (even if the first few tries had me closing my eye on reflex, haha).

Don't skimp on quality with contacts either- I used to use a cheap brand as a teenager and it split in my eye! That really hurts, I'll tell you!
I swear by Focus Dailies, although I'll be switching to Acuvue lenses for extended wear for the wedding. So I can sleep in them the night before and the night after, so I don't have to worry about getting them in and out. My choice to use contacts on the wedding is partially vanity and partially that my hair has a habit of getting caught in the frames. lol.

My optician was a total **** and tried to convince me that I was an idiot for wanting them as they'll cost more per month (which they don't- £37.50 for three months supply extended wear compared to £20 a month for dailies). Grrrr!

I started out on monthly contacts but the went to dailies and i've never looked back! Honestly best thing I ever did. I stil wear specs on a night time as you only get up to 10 hours decent wear out of contacts. Go a few months before and you'll get used to it before the wedding! You might need to put a new pair in for the mint d if you go for dailies just so you can see better. Don't get me wrong they aren't as good but they do me fine day to day! Wouldn't look back!

I will be wearing contacts on the day, but I expect H2B will stick to his glasses. I am a very occasional lens-wearer - used to have them in a lot more but in my current job my shifts are just too long and my eyes start to dry out, so I only have them for special occasions now.

Photos-wise, I'm more worried about my parents as they have those "react-to-light" lenses, which always come up really dark in any outdoors photos, and I really don't want them to look like they're in sunnies in all my pics!

Both h2b and I wear glasses - although he wears contacts more than I do, but we'll both be wearing contacts for the wedding. Thankfully we're staying at the venue, so i'll def have my glasses and will prob change into them later on - my brother did the same at his wedding.

So i'd try on contacts and see how you feel and get used to seeing yourself without glasses...if you don't like it - there's your answer! xx

The Girls are right, you can try disposable ones at places like spec savers, the sooner you tyr them the sooner you will know if you are comfortable with them. However if you are comfortable wearing glasses then stick with them, it what you are most comfortable with thats important.

For anyone who's wearing contacts on the day, I would highly recommend you have someone (MoH, mum, best man) keep your glasses or refresher drops (or even an extra pair of lenses) on them just in case you get something in the pair you have on that you can't get rid of.
Or you might do something daft like rub your eyes, forgetting the contacts are in, and they'll fall out. Yes, that did happen to me. They also literally jumped out of my eyes when I was backstage before a show and it was pitch black (my eyes tried so hard to adjust to the light, the lenses fell out and I had to do the show blind). But I doubt you'll find yourself in that situation at your wedding.

Good luck! Don't be disheartened if you can't get them in at first- it takes a while to get used to, especially if you have issues with touching your eye.
Generally on the first couple of times (to see the fit), your optician will put them in for you. Although this might differ on the optician and age of patient- I was 14 when I got mine and had it done at Boots.

I've worn glasses for about ten years now and they are just part of me. I feel strange when I don't wear them, so for me, I'll be wearing them on my wedding day. I would love to do contacts but I just can't - it's really pathetic but I have a massive phobia of eyes. Y'know how people hate the dentist? I hate the opticians! I feel sick and terrified - my knuckles go white from gripping the arm of the chair! So contacts are a no-no for me! But I would say if you're not a scaredy-cat like myself, then go for it! You've got plenty of time to get used to them and see if they are for you. Good luck! x

I had an app on Saturday to try contacts (I always said I would never get them, but here I am really wanting them as am fed up with wearing glasses), it was a bit of a battle for the optician to get them in my eyes and out again haha!

But.. once they were in they were great, I went for a 40 min walk around town and at times I forgot they were in! Feel a bit funny, as he said it feels as if you have an eyelash in your eye, but I am sure that feeling goes away when you wear them alot.

I am going back this week for a hour long teaching session to put them in and take them out. That should be fun haha. Will let you know how it goes..x

i have got contacts in now and wear them most of the time. i wear glasses prob one day a week to work but sometimes my eyes dry out on comp so glasses are more comfy when this happens.

i agree though, it does take a while to get used to putting them in. but dont get annoyed with them like my h2b does or it will become harder.

one tip though, when you are putting them in make sure both hands are dry properly otherwise your fingers will slide when lifting eye lid! xx

I don't know how I cope without contact lenses now! I ran out of spares early last week and still haven't got round to making a new appointment to get more (I'm due my aftercare) - so I've been stuck in my glasses for the last week - it feels so weird!!
There are so many types on the market now that your optician will find one which is comfortable for you, whether you get dailies (so you don't have to worry about cleaning them every night and have a fresh pair every day) or monthly/two weekly. I can't wait to get my new lot through, I couldn't possibly wear glasses much longer, it just doesn't feel right - everyone at work has been asking me when I got them - they don't realise that I've not been able to see for the last 15 years!!

Good luck at your appointment! xxx

I love having my contacts available to use, even though I tend to wear glasses most days. I wore contacts on our wedding day and couldn't imagine having worn my glasses! I know it's personal choice, but that was mine lol. You might find it takes a little while for you and other people to get used to seeing you without your glasses on, so it may be an idea to wear them a fair few times before the day so that people get used to seeing you in them on occasion, and then you wont get lots of comments about it on the day!

Worn glasses since I was 7, have had contact lenses since I was 16, mostly for occasional wear, but wore them all the time at uni, now back to glasses except for going out! Hate wearing glasses, contact lenses on the day was a complete non-issue for me! Glad to hear you've tried them and are getting on with them! If you do have problems, make sure you talk to your optician and don'r just give up on them... I've been through about 5 different brands of contact lenses in the last year, sometimes different brands are a better fit / more suitable!

Just reading this thread is making my eyes water!!

No contest for me, been wearing glasses for 21 years so it'll be glasses for me. As I cannot imagine touching my eye or having to keep them open enough to stick a lens in. I did debate laser eye surgery a couple of years ago, but then watched a programme that really put me off having anything done to my eyes. So the bottom line is that my eyes are useless, but thanks to the magic invention of glasses I can see, and am grateful for that!

Think its the whole 'special for one day thing'. I used to work in a hairdressers and see all these women come in as brides to be and have hair extensions and things and i used to think to myself... in a way your changing 'you' for one day..on the most important day for being yourself..your wedding day..the day your H2B says 'I do' to the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with... I always think you should want to look and be you, show your personality etc on that day! :)
