just throw away everything smoking related, ashtrays, lighters, matches and if h2b is still smoking say oh well you will have to go outside anyway so im not tempted. breaking the habits is the hardest part, like having a ciggie with a coffee in the morning or having 1 when you finish eating etc. make sure to do something to fill the time you would usually spend smoking with something else, but not eating lol. my dad said he needed something in his hands so he used the nicorette inhalor and it worked for him, after 30 years of smoking he quit and he made it look so easy too! you can do it if you really want to x

That is the difficult thing as H2b is still smoking, he goes outside anyway. I am hoping that if he sees that I can do it, then he will give it a go as well. I am saving the money I would have spent and that can go towards some nice beauty treatments before the wedding!!
If your dad can do it after 30 years then I am sure I can too!! x

I used the pills. I found it pretty easy to do on them, and my h2b still smokes in the house and it doesn't bother me.

I gave up about 5 years ago or so. (lost count now) Its all in the mind too be honest. Your body doesn't need it. In fact it does everything it can to get rid of the nicotine as it is a poison to the body. Once you have got rid of the nicotine which can take from 24-72 hours depending on how much you smoke it is all in the head. All your mind is doing is saying you want one because you are in the routine of having one once you have completed a set task such as waking up, meal times etc. If you can reprogramme your mind into developing another habit such as drinking a glass of water instead of smoking then you can get out of the habit easily enough without putting on weight either. Most people put on weight because they substitute eating for smoking so by replacing it with a healthy habit you are on a win win road.

It does take will power and I'm not saying it is easy but if you really want to do it then it isn't as hard as you think it is. The only reason you think it is so hard is because people keep telling you that it is but it really is as simple as just telling yourself that it is all in your mind and you are just being silly. Why would you want to poison your body, spend all that money just to go up in smoke and stick awful?

Keep yourself busy and change your routines about so you don't miss smoking. If you usually light up after dinner then go wash the pots and then find something to do. The more you sit and think about not smoking the more you will want to do it.

thankfully i didnt put up much of a fight when i quit as i was pregnant so it was just a thing i knew i had to do but i stopped doing the things i enjoyed, going to my sisters for a coffee was probs the hardest cos i didnt get to see her as often but it helped. then the smoking ban came in and i could go out again without fearing i would light up when drinking. the 1st few weeks are the hardest but when you quit you will see the way people look standing out in the rain smoking, or someone will walk past and you will smell them and think urgh i used to smell like that to others. plus the money you will save is amazing!

Well I am on day 3 and haven't had any major issues. Thanks for the advice - I have been distracting myself...the house is now super clean!! Think I am going to have to throw out all the left over Christmas chocolate though as I am eating a bit more than I sould and that is not good! x

Congratulations to all you new non-smokers! I know it's a tough thing to do (did it myself 5 years ago) but amazing the difference it makes to wallet & health! You will look better, sound better, sleep better and smell at least one hundred times better. Will done, and keep it going.
Don't forget, there's lots of great, FREE support services are available to you via your GP and if you're lucky enough to live in Warwickshire then the smoking cessation lady at Warwick hosp is fantastic. xxx

Well done you... are you putting the money you would have spent on fags in a jar to see how much you have saved. I gave up before christmas on Dec 1st and as a 20 a day smoker I just put the £6.20 away each day plus a few more "packets" to cover New Years Eve and parties etc = total in my jar is £235.60. Thats been my reality check so I wish you continued good luck

Wow Louby that is great! I used to smoke 20 a day before they went up to crazy prices so it really makes me glad I quit smoking so long ago. You will wonder soon how you ever managed to afford to pay for all them nasty cigarettes. It also makes wearing perfume worth while as you never realise when you smoke just how bad you smell even if you spray perfume. At least now I get what I pay for.

go to your doctor and ask for something called champix. i know a few people that have used it and they all swear by it. my dad had tried to quit a few times but he hasnt smoked for over 7 months now not even one since he took this champix thing.

it isnt for everyone tho as it can cause erratic side effects but if you can cope with those or are lucky not to get them then it really is amazing!! xx

    good luck

Thanks Grey, I think I know I can do it, successfully gave up before for about 4 years so I don't see why I can't do that again. My *prize* for giving up is the kinect and some of the dance games...that should be incentive enough lol

I'm so proud of H2B :D he is on his second day of not smoking :D Not that I've ever said this to him but I really didn't think he would be able too. I thought I would stop first, but nope hes beating me lol but I have cut down majorly at least :) hoping to be fully stopped by the end of the week.

Hes so cute, came in today with one of those honeymoon fund jars you have to smash open to put the money he is saving in. He smoked 30 day, I was on 20 now about 6 :) so we are saving quite alot of money all ready! But he is one of those really annoying 'ex smokers' you would think he has never touched on in his life
