You do have at least some if not all of it separately to ensure that you are not being forced into marriage and its not a sham marriage not sure how long it lasts though - wouldnt think it would take that long
There are so many people out there who will tell you
what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

Ours were totally separate, but that's because we had to give notice in different Boroughs! We were there about half an hour for one and almost an hour for the other, but most of that was waiting in the waiting room.
Those who were giving notice together went in together, then one came out, then the other went in when the other one came out and then they went in together again after paying the £33.50 each to the cash desk!
Not sure how other people's went though.

I was talking to my cousin about this yesterday funny enough. They had a right old who-ha because they live in France but are british, so wanted to get married here. There's was even more complicated as she was previously married to his brother. They were interrogated - literally - to find out if they were legally British citizens, if they had the right to marry here and if it would be legal in France, then also if they were blood related and what the circumstances were surrounding her marrying one brother, then another. They looked in to her divorce thoroughly - not just checking her Absolute. They had to go backwards and forwards for several interviews and finally got confirmation just 3 days before the date that it could go ahead!! Having said that, it will normally be ok - allow an hour or so, because they don't hurry for anyone. It's £33.50 to register then if you're booking the registry office too, it is whatever their rates are ontop. You should be able to find those costs on your local council website. They take you into separate rooms and ask basic questions if there's no reason for concern - it's all just to check you're not being forced into it, that you're not trying to get a British passport by marrying a citizen etc.

Does any one know what happens then if one of you lives in another country? I know that I have to go but what do I do about h2b ?? thank you for any help and advice x

We gave notice at the same registry office (Lambeth) and were there for about 15 mins. We were brought in together initially and then I was sent out of the room and then told to come back in then he was sent out. The bit that was separate was just to ask him my DoB and occupation and vice versa. Registrar was all very serious until we'd done the formalities then she was like a different person and all jokey and laughing!
Vegas baby!

ada - I would go asap and ask as you may need to provide a lot of documents etc and they will want to interview him if you are getting married or are going to live in the UK.

it will - you'll have to let us know the procedure if you're marrying someone who lives abroad, when you've found out of course :0)

It takes about 20 mins and your interviewed separately and then brought back together, don't worry it is fine.x
CommentAuthorGem1102
it took us about half an hour. the registrar interviewed us separately, asking things like whats h2b's full name, job, easy questions. and then together. nothing scary. xx
CommentAuthorMrsSaraParry!
we were together to start off with, then answered questions seperately and then brought back together again :o) about 25 mins in total xx

I'm really worried about how it's going to work out for me. I've had a letter detailing my provisional booking and it states that I have to confirm the booking a year from the date of the wedding or within 28 days of that date or my booking will be available for somebody else. My h2b is forces and will be in the nasty place at that time and I don't know when he'll get his midway break. I only found this out yesterday and so now I'm bit panicky. I'll have to phone the registrars office tomorrow to see what we can do. I do not want to lose my date!!!!
I can't wait until 29/06/2013
The day I marry the man of my dreams!
CommentAuthormisscat87
shirleygirly, i was worried about that too as we didnt have any free time within those 28 days to give notice, we were worried we would lose our date, but when i called them up they made us an appointment which was 33 days later and they said all was fine as long as we had made the appointment within 28 days, so hopefully will be same for you where you are..
to answer the original question, we were there about 20 minutes and were interviewed together, i wasnt allowed to speak while h2b was answering and vice versa x
CommentAuthorMrsSaraParry!
shirleygirly don't panic - when our month arrived I'd just had an operation and couldn't walk so we couldnt go. The office rang me and got a bit snotty but when I explained they were fine about it. As long as you've made an appointment to go it will show up on their system and they know that you're doing something about it, even if you don't go within that month xxx

Ours was about half hour aswell - at first we went in together and get told what happens blah blah blah, then I stayed whilst steve went and sat in waiting room and just got asked questions that will appear on marriage certificate like full names of us both, occupation and then questions to make sure we wernet related in any way... Then I popped out n steve went in, then that was it really. Then the best bit was getting the marriage pack where you get all details of your ceremony so extra planning to do now :) xx
