if you are having a civil ceremony then you have to give notice. you cant get married without it

ljeh92 - Yes as Mrsbakertobe said if you are having a civil ceremony you better get on it!

Because after giving notice you have to wait for a few weeks before they will give you the paper work.

    You give notice
They write it all up and make it public knowledge for a certain amount of time (cant remember if its 2 weeks or 4 weeks)
and then at the end of this public period you collect your paperwork and you are allowed to get married.

You cant get married before you have the paper work.

Ive just come of the phone to our registrar. We were planning on going in next friday to give notice and she said that either one of us could do it as they dont need both of us to do it. Think i will stick to both of us going in will be more exciting plus h2b hasnt seen the room yet. Cant wait. cc

we had to do our at a joint meeting, then interview separately. i too was quite nervous and felt like i was lying all the time - i wasnt obviously! my partner and i have very quick sense of humour and when she asked me 'does mr b know you by any other names' i was tempted to say "yes; he calls me his b1tch", amongst other things but i dont think this would have gone down to well. lol.
    xx

All done now! Get to pick up the certificate on 22 April! I know there was nothing to worry about, but I get scared of all things formal, hence the very informal Vegas wedding and 'party' afterwards back here! Did get asked names, DoB's and occupations separately - they just had a chair outsidethe office that we were sent to - felt like the naughty chair! Notice goes up (somewhere, no idea where though!) for 15 days. If anyone objects, I'll hunt them down. Wrath of Heather style! Hx

Lol yikes pity anyone that tries anything with Heather around lol : ) sure it will be fine. What i cant understand is why do they need to ask all those questions, like you are not going to know your h2bs occupation or dob. lol Glad its all done now anyway Heather. : ) xx

But I live in London where I think there may be some issues with dodgy marriages, people trying to gain citizenship through marriage etc. I can understand it and knew that we were fine, but I was still really nervous! My palms have just about stopped sweating now! LOL!

Pssh, I forgot my h2b's job title when we gave notice. I can never remember it, so I just burst into laughter when I realised that I didn't know. So I just described the job he does through giggles. The guy who we gave notice to was a right miserable s0d and didn't even try to lighten the mood.

Church are different ... I only know about RC churches, they read out an announcment that you're getting married (called Banns) for three weeks and then it's all ok to get married.

We gave notice then got it all paid off a few weeks ago so all relaxed about that side of things now. I remind Nigel that the registry office is all paid up now so there is no backing out whether he likes it or not!! He is too much of a skinflint to cancel and lose the money!!! lol.
MelG, LOVE the dress you are wearing in your profile pic, would have been perfect for my BMs dresses but too late now :( lol. xxx
