    Hi all;
Today we booked our giving notice appointment for next Tuesday but not sure what goes on or what they ask?

I saw on another website that they ask these questions?

    what is your full name?
have you ever been known by any other name legally?
    have you ever been married?
what is your partners full name
has your partner ever been known by any other name legally?
has your partner to your knowledge ever been married?
what country were you born in?
What's your partners date of birth?
what is your partners job title & despcription?
    what is your fathers job?
    what is your fathers surname?

Hi yes we were asked all those questions, and in separate rooms (I got H2b's job title wrong lol!!). It is quite a formal thing as you are entering into a legal entity and they also need to be sure that it is not an arranged or forced marriage. It was more 'formal' than I ever seem to remember my church wedding being 20 years ago I'm sure we were asked the questions but far less officially if that makes sense?
    xx

We went straight from work. Make sure you have all the documentation they've asked for or you won't be able to give notice. We had to pay for the Notices in cash (£70?) as our Registry Office doesn't take cards.

What documents do you need to take with you for these? As i have had my name changed by deed-poll, would i need proof of that?

We both went in jeans - and the registrar was talking about music choices etc - she was very relaxed and friendly

Yes Vicki I think you would need proof of that. When we went it was very informal. My H2B couldn't even remember my DOB but the registrar just laughed. I was quite nervous but it really isn't anything to worry about. Apologies if I've posted that bit twice but I can't see my first response!

They were much more relaxed second time once we went to discuss details. The meeting for the Marriage Notice was very formal!

Ok thank you; ours said it was £30 per person and could pay by card; Do you think I should bring it in cash just in case?

We wore jeans to ours, the registrar doesn't care so long as you're able to answer all the questions and tick the boxes. We paid by cheque as we rarely have cash in our wallets (so used to paying for everything by card). Although its a formal procedure, we were very relaxed and were able to have a laugh with the registrar and although we're not getting married in the county we now live in she felt the need to supply us with a load of literature that they normally only send to the couples that are are marrying locally. We got the literature from the registrars who will be marrying us a few days later and although there were more suggestions for readings, not many were the same so we got a good selection out of it - shame we'd already decided not to have any readings really!
