Im getting married in 2017 and have asked my mum to give me away as she has done everything for me and helped me so much with my son. Problem is I know my dad wants to be the one to give me away, how do I tell him I've asked my mum? Am I wrong for asking my mum to do it? Please help. Thank you x

You just have to be honest and he should understand. It may be harsh but it's your wedding day and you can have whoever you like give you away :)

Yep. I think yoiu just need to be honest from the start and tell him that you want your mum. there is still the daughter/dad dance.

Agree with the others and better to do it sooner rather than later so there is not any false expectation xx

I also agree with the others, if its your mum whose always been there for you and want her to give you away your dad needs to accept that xx

Of course you're not wrong for asking or wanting your mum to do it - if your mum has earned that privilege then she has every right to be the one to walk you down the aisle. Your dad may be upset, but like GF said, there is still the father daughter dance if you wanted to involve him that way? :) honesty is the best policy, I'd just make it clear as early as possible xx

Just tell him the truth, he'll undrstand. It means a lot to be open and honest. If he gets a little upset give him a job to do, like a speech or for daddy daughter dance after your first dance with the hubby. xx

Hey Georgina, I'm in the same position.
I haven't decided how to tell him but he doesn't even know I'm engaged yet!
I think I'm just going to be honest but I'm hoping he's not expecting to be doing it anyway otherwise that's going to be awkward.
Let me know how you get on :) I'm putting it off a bit yet xx

That wouldnt go down well with my dad. I'll let it sink in that I'm getting married first then tell him after. Telling him in the same conversation would be a bad move x

Yeah obviously I wouldn't let him believe he is going to give me away when he isn't. I just don't know how to tell him. He isn't well so it makes me feel worse about the whole situation. I am still planning on doing the father/daughter dance with him. Don't want him to be completely excluded x

Just explain that because you feel closer to your mom you want her to give you away but still want the father daughter dance and speeches. If your honest I'm sure he will understand x

It sounds like you get on much better with your dad than I do with mine.
I'm sure he will be understanding and having your dance together he'll have his special moment with you. Sounds best of both :)

Be honest and explain that you would really like your mum to walk you and then find something else in which he can do for you.
