We are sending our invites shortly, and we were thinking of asking for money to go towards our honeymoon (we've lived together for over 4 years, so don't really need stuff for the house) what I was wondering is if anyone has any good websites where you can get poems from, as I thought this would be nicer than outright asking for money! Thanks x

If you would like to buy as a gift, we would appreciate travel vouchers from XXXXX towards our honeymoon to...
Keep it honest and simple and you a lot less likely to offend! (and outside the wedding bubble I've never seen anything positive about recieving poems)

right i have spent the last 10 mins searching for this and can't come up with any results but thought i'd share the poem we are putting in our invites for gifts.
Please find within this poem Information just for you, With some rules and regulations That we both insist you do.
Save the date of .................. Is the first thing to say To share the love and happiness On our wedding day.
The second one is vital If you're to be our guest, To eat, drink and be merry Or do your very best.
The third one is an order So don't bring two left feet, As when the evening comes around You MUST dance to the beat.
The fourth rule can be broken We really do not mind, But if you choose to follow it Thank you for being kind.
We've been together for a few years And have a lovely home, There are not too many items now We don't already own.
So if your thoughts were on a gift Your presence will suffice, But if you really feel the need Then cash would be nice.
The choice is really up to you And we would like to say We hope you come, enjoy yourselves And have a lovely day

Thanks for your replies, I've just been searching the internet as well, and a lot of people seem to find it offensive to ask for money in your invitations, even if it is asked for as a poem rather than just outright, now im a bit worried!!! The thing is, we don't really want people to waste their money on stuff we don't really need, so we would rather have money to spend on our honeymoon - now im worried that people will think we are money grabbing, which really isn't what I wanted at all!!! Dont really know what to do now!! Maybe we're just best not to put anything in at all, then if people ask we can say we would prefer money?

We're asking for money, the last 3 weddings I've been to asked for money I've never been offended don't stress out about it xx

Thats what Im thinking now, I dont want to offend anyone.

You are never going to please everyone!!!!!!! Most people would prefer to give you something you want than something that will sit in a cupboard for years.

RoseyB - we went to a wedding last year and they asked for money, and I didn't even give it a thought to be offended, its just reading all these things on the interent just now has made me think!
CommentAuthorMrs (Dove) Pidgeon
I've read on the net its rude to expect people to travel to weddings not near where they live, to not have a free bar, to not provide transport, to even dare breathe... the internet is great at being judgemental. There is nothing wrong with you wishes... its a case of presenting it in an way which the most people find acceptable.

Stop reading them haha :) if you think about it, the people you are inviting are your friends and family they really shouldn't mind as long as you word it well making sure to suggest it rather than tell them and I think to say their presence at your wedding is enough but if they would like to give you a gift... Xxxx

We have decided to ask for money too but not for a honeymoon. The idea is for new beds for the kids and a sofa hehehehe. Like you we have lived together for a while now and ive had my own house for about 15 years so have all the basics that are the normal wedding presents. This way we get what we want and need rather then something we would never use, after all the first time i got married we ended up with 6 toasters?????? lol

I found this which we considered using, but we've since decided that we will register and upgrade the kitchen things or get things we still want.
we know its not traditional it's not the way it's done but instead of a wedding list we'd like a bit of sun
please do not think of us as rude please do not take offence we do not want to upset you that's not the way it's meant
we've lived together quite a while and all the bills are paid we've got out plates, our pots and pans our plans have all been made
so if you'd like to give a gift to help us celebrate some money for a honeymoon we would appreciate
I know it's not quite what you're after but maybe you could jiggle the words?
Now, finally, Mrs Riley
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world
