I hope this is the right place, I still have a few months left, but the nerves are starting to set in. This might sound lame, but I have stage fright and hate being the centre of attention, and the idea of standing in front of all those people with their eyes on me is quite scary. Any tips on getting over the fear of speaking?

Hi TashyM!
Deep breaths are a big help.
I also find pressure points help me focus for eg I press the flesh web between my left thumb and index finger like so.

Practising what you're also planning to say is also a good thing. Try doing it solo, then in front of a mirror, then your partner or friend. If you need a group of teddy bears there is no shame in it. When saying your vows maintain eye contact with your partner as this will help ground you and block out surrounding eyes.

Thanks, I'll have a look for techniques and will practice my vows when I get them
A woman I work with said she felt like that but when she saw him smile at her as she came in her nerves all went away (not sure if I believe her or not lol, but I hope its true)

I've heard that too Erin. I'm just trying my best to remind myself that I have known all these people that are going to be there my through my whole life and have seen me embarrass myself in various ways lol

Having a rehearsal the day before will help. If it's in a church there will be a rehearsal with the vicar or minister, if not you might have to organise something specially. Visualising it all going well is helpful. I am a musician and used to get terrible stagefright but learnt to control my nerves through NLP (neuro-linguistic programming). If you do an online search you'll find resources that help. It involves visualisation and relaxation. On the day though you'll probably forget about all the people watching, your focus will be on your husband. I know I really wasn't aware of the congregation most of the time at mine.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

I was so nervous right up until I started to walk down the aisle and saw my husband. It's cheesy but its true when see your oh it makes a big difference. Our registrar gave us the option to repeat the vows after her or read it off a card. We choose repeat after her as I think this is better when you're nervous. I was still nervous about saying the vows but we both made little mistakes and everyone laughed then I felt a lot better. I got carried away and spoke over the registrar instead of repeating after her and my husband said our name wrong haha
