Not sure about Thailand, but I don't think it's legal in maldives. You could get married here and have a blessing over there instead.

You should go to a travel agent and get one of their weddings abroad brochures, they normally tell you about legal requirements in there x

You can't legally get married in the Maldives. You can in Thailand but there are some documents and things that you have to sort out. I found this on the net:

"If you're a foreigner marrying either a Thai citizen or another foreigner, you'll need to make sure you have your passport with two copies of the photograph page and also two copies of the page showing your visa into Thailand. Your passport must be valid for at least six months otherwise Thai authorities won't even let you in the country, let alone get married.

Secondly, you'll have to get an Affirmation of Freedom to Marry, which you can get at your home embassy in Bangkok - and a certified translation of this document in Thai. You'll then have to take this document to the Legalization and Naturalization Division of the Department of Consular Affairs on Chaeng Wattana Road in northern Bangkok to get it authenticated. It normally takes two working days and you'll have to return there to pick it up, but if you pay an extra fee you can usually get it taken care of that day. Like every other document in Thailand, you'll also need a photocopy of both of these documents."

The marriage of UK and Irish citizens duly registered in Thailand is legally binding under UK and Irish law.

    Required Documentation

    All documentation must be original.

    A Valid Passport
Affidavit of Freedom to Marry under Thai Law:
This is an Affidavit notarized by your Embassy or Consulate stating that you are both free to marry and in effect they have no objection to you doing so. You will be required to visit your Embassy or Consulate in Bangkok to obtain this document and you will each require individual Affidavit.
If you are divorced - a Decree Absolute
If you are a widower - a Death certificate and previous Marriage Certificate.
Proof of income may be required:
This is stated on the affidavits if any income is declared. (Best to check with your Wedding Planner or Tour Operator).
    Prenuptial agreement:
If you are planning to have a prenuptial agreement this will not be recorded by the registrar in Thailand.

My brother got married on Koh Samui, an island in Thailand, but they had a registry office wedding at home first so they didn't have quite so much paperwork etc. to do whilst in Thailand. They had a celebrant marry them at Rocky Resort which deals with a lot of weddings and it is gorgeous, but most of the weddings are buddhist. I would have loved to have done that but it was going to be too expensive. Amazing though if you can do it, once in a lifetime experience! :) x
