So I want to get married in a hotel/manor, but we need someone to do the wedding? Who is that, how do I find him/her, and how much will they cost?! Thanks

You need to find out which registry office covers your venue. Your venue should be able to give you this information. Get in touch with them and they will advise you on everything you need to do and all the legal side of things.

Oh thank goodness! I was beginning to stress about that, do we need to get a wedding license before we go the registry office, or after? Like can we book the registry person first before we get the license?

I beleive all the registrar side needs to be booked no sooner than a year before the wedding so just chill for now. As long as you get the venue booked for now :) x
Some insist that you can't book them until you can give notice which is no longer than a year before your wedding day. Some will provisionally let you book the date and time until you can confirm your notice. They will explain everything to them and their ways of operating if you ask them as each area does their own thing. They also send you out a handy booklet with a list of all the venues you can get married at in the area and what you need to do.

The cost varies according to where you are, ours is scotland and has cost 270 pound for a saturday service out of their registry office. You cant give notice too far ahead but ours were happy to provisionally book the date for us.

most hotels have their own wedding co-ordinator to take charge of things for you, ours is included in the price and she is really helpful x
I have know my soulmate for 27 years and on the 6th August
I married him and became Mrs Garnham.
It was most definitely the happiest day of my life.
I love married life !!!!

We visited our venue, provisionally booked it, then went to the registry office to see if they could marry us in our venue on the date we had provisionally booked. MrsMac2B I agree, we gave 9 months notice and the registrar was like oh that's AGES yet, regardless of the fact they already had another wedding booked for 2pm (we get married at 3pm!)

We're getting married in a hotel and they told us which registry office covers their venue. When I contacted them they said that we need to call them a year before the date to book (we called on 23rd July this year for the same date next year) and it cost us £450 to book the registrar for that day (I think the cost may change depending on the registry office) I know that some registrars take a deposit before, but you'll have to check with them.
Once you have booked you should receive a Wedding pack from the registrar and it will tell you what to do next. This is to book an appointment with your local registrar (if different from the office that covers your venue) which is an 'intention to marry' meeting. They take both your details and post your intention to marry on their public boards for 3 weeks. You then get to collect your certificate and this needs to be delivered to the registrars who are conducting your wedding. The certificate only lasts for a year and it costs £67 (again may vary according to registry office) Best to give notice about 9-10 months before your Wedding so it's another tick off the list and not a last minute thing.
You will have to pay £3.50 for every copy you require of your marriage certificate too.
I recommend calling the registry office that covers your hotel just to check their proceedures, as they may let you reserve the date/time now and then officially book it a year before.
