Book a date at your venue first - we are getting married June 2016, we booked our venue and registrar a few months ago. The only other thing we have booked at this stage is the DJ for the evening reception, and we will be organising the photographer very soon. I'm going to start trying on dresses around Easter time 2015 - most dress shops ask for 9 months notice so that they can make alterations etc. if required.

If you make a list you will have a clearer idea of what you need to do and you can start prioritising things :-)

Have you thought about going to any wedding fairs? We are going to the National Wedding Show at the NEC in October. :-)

MrsP2Bx how did you manage to book your registrar?? We've been told we cant book it until 12 months to the date before the wedding - i'm getting married May 21st 2016 so cant book till 21st May 2015!!

First thing we did was the venue - then insurance - i actually tried dresses on last weekend and found 'the one' so i've got my dress!! lol, sorting out guest list and colour/theme - asked ushers, best man and bridesmaid etc. Look around at photographers see the packages they offer. I've booked a sweet table and got someone to make my flowers - I'm having fake ones

Congrats and welcomes to UkBride!!! Were also going to the wedding show in October too!! xx

Everywhere is different, it just depends where you are getting married! I am in Wiltshire and was able to book no problems, we just have to obviously give our notice 12 months before the wedding :-) we weren't able to secure our venue without having booked a registrar first! xx

oh my gosh... it would be SO much easier if we could book the registrar too but sadly south glos council wont let me :( that sucks!! lol Its pretty unusual for the venue not to let you book without it lol... but at least its 1 less then you need to worry about :D xx

It would definitely be easier - I don't know what they get from making you wait. Surely the earlier the better for all parties involved! I think I'd go mad if I had to wait until next year.. !! xx

Do you need tickets for the national wedding show?

SarahT681 definitely get your venue sorted first and then Church or Registrar if possible. Buy a wedding planner book as you can put all of your ideas in it and it will help you get organised.

We are getting married in 2017, it is never too late to start organising! Especially if you have children! We have provisionally sorted through the guest list, table plan, and playlist. We know the colours we are going with, the theme, our bridesmaids, best woman, flower girl, usher, I know what kind of dress I want, what kind of suit I want for my h2b (he said he wants me to pick), what kind of dress I want for my flower girl etc. And I have even started preparing decorations and getting family members to set aside old glass jars or bottles that they have so I can decorate them. It just means a lot less stress closer to the time if the smaller things are already done. You find that it the smaller things that actually take up the most time! But yes, our venue and everything is already booked, just need to send off the deposit for it. (oh god, I sound like a bridezilla!). So don't worry about what people may think about starting early, there is no such thing. And it will soon pass you by as well.

    Hi ladies
Me and my H2B have recently gotten engaged and have decided to get married around sept 2016. We are on a tight budget as we will be paying it for ourselves. My problem is that my family is big and all are abroad but we both want our wedding in the uk so have decided to have it here. That will probably mean that most of my family dont come :( but my immediate family will be able to so thats ok. I feel that it is ages away but i also want to start planning and getting things organised as there seems to be so much to be done.
Any tips for me to ease my organising and make sure i dont get stressed?
Is it too early to get stuff booked?
Is it easy to make your our invitations and make sure they look good and not tacky ?
Also wanted to ask. Do i have to make an appointment to go wedding dress trying or can i just show up?

    Thanks guys so much
    xxxx

Hi Bianca, first of all congratulations.

It's never too early to start planning. First things to think about is whether you want a church/registry office and get those booked along with your reception venue.
Also the bigger things like cars, dj, entertainment, photographer as these get booked up well in advance.
If you're making your own invitations, you have plenty of time to make them before you have to send them out :-)
When I went wedding dress shopping I didn't book appointments but it may be wiser to book so you are guaranteed to try them on x

Hi Bianca and congratulations! I am May 2016 and I booked my venue October last year and started booking everything else after that. Start with booking the bigger things like venue, DJ/entertainment, photographer, transport etc as these things tend to get booked up quickly. It is never too early to start booking!

I am on a tight budget too but along with saving a little bit each month I have been buying some little decorations bits each month to spread the cost a bit more. Make sure to sit down and work out how much you can afford to save each month between now and your wedding to come up with a realistic budget.

I am making my own invitations and if you spend a bit of time on the design of them and get some good quality card to print them on to. You usually do have to make appointments to try on dresses but it's worth checking with the shops in your area.

    Happy planning! x

I would say the most important thing is to get the venues booked! The first thing we did was to get on to the church, met the vicar and booked that. Now we're looking at reception venues. I'm a teacher so we're going for an August wedding, might be booked more quickly than a July one (not sure) but my friends who have got married have all said venue first then you can take things more slowly! :-)

    Congrats and enjoy! :-) xxxx

Thank you all for your responses shall try and get the big things sorted out. I think i am just more stressed than others atm because me and m H2B currently live in devon but are planning to have our wedding closer to his family who live near basingstoke so that is like a 4 hour drive and i think i am going to struggle planning with the distance. Going up there is a week or so to get an idea of what is available so that should be good.

Happy planniyng for you all too xxx

    Hi Bianca,
    Congratulations!
I know one of the first things you should do is to pick your venue and church, and one of the important things you should book is the photographer, because as I know they get booked in 1 or 2 years in advance most of the time.
My favourite is Peter Lane. So, i'd like to recommend him: LINK REMOVED BY MODERATORS

I found my venue yesterday, they told me to email the registrar and they had an online enquiry form which I filled out, they phoned me today and I've just paid my deposit. Before emailing them I actually phoned them as I thought it would be quicker and the person on the phone said that I can't book until 12 months, but she was actually talking about the notice of marriage which is 12 months. Try having a look on your local registry office and try and find the online enquiry form. Surely they would all work the same

Im getting married July 2016. I started with my dress which most people will think is mad but i seen the one i loved and didnt want to risk losing it. We booked our church in January and we have just booked our venue, I would definitely book your venue first as we had trouble finding places as they were all booked, that god weve found somewhere at last.

We're getting married July 2016 too, first things to book up are venue for ceremony and reception, photographer and flowers esp with it being mid wedding season you might find people are being booked up already, so maybe write a list of what you want and start looking into it, our venue told us we couldn't book til 12months before hand but with it being only place I liked I managed to get it booked early and at the cheaper price of 2015 rather than the 2016 prices which by going through last few years will be increase of 3/4per person. Also music for evening, I found a lovely dj but they were already booked for our date! ( not happy me) so don't leave the big things too late. Stuff like dresses and centrepieces ect can be sorted bit closer to time. Good luck and defo write a list of everything save you from forgetting x

ours is 10th July was 9th but changed it to the Sunday for costs, we were able to get more with our budget on the sunday! Definitely start looking at your venue first we were looking at places last year who where booking for 2016! x Then just write yourself a list of people you need to get i.e. photographer, car, cake, rings, florist braids/flower girls

We booked our venue 2 years in advance.. I'm getting married 18th June 2016. So first we booked venue, registrar, DJ, harpist and the photographer - the things we considered the 'bigger' things and the things that are most likely to get booked up quickly! If we were having transport we would have also booked that at this point as well. We then went to the National Wedding Show in the October and ended up booking a magician.

We've also bought both of our rings, I have my shoes and all 4 adult bridesmaid dresses. We've got all our bits and bobs for our invitations, just need to make them now, and we have stuff for our DIY favours.

I am currently getting quotes for cakes and am hoping to get a deposit down on one in the next few weeks. Next on my list is sorting out the flowers - looking to make my own artificial bouquets so going to have a play around with them.

    Going dress shopping in June.

    I think that's it so far!! x
