    Hiya
I joined yesterday and posted in the intro thread saying how after 7 years together and 6 an a half years engaged, I have told my OH in no uncertain terms that after we get home from holiday (in 3 weeks), we WILL be discussing setting a date.

Anyway as he agreed to 'discuss' it, didn't turn green or pass out lol, I have gone a bit mental. I have seen two dresses, I have two venues I want to see, I have seen some wedding entertainment I want, I have table centre and save the date magnets ideas, I have sooooooooo many ideas for an Xmas wedding ....... BUT - he hasn't even said yes to doing it yet.

Anyway back to the point of my post. How far in advance did you set your date? I am thinking either Oct 2013, Dec 2013 Or April 2014. I have seen some amazing things for an Xmas theme so am hedging towards Dec 13. I know that I am going to have to organise most of it as he is a bit useless and will just go for what I want anyway and that will include the date.

I really need to sit on my hands for a few weeks :O/

    S xx

1 date set. I will finally become Mrs A in December 2013!

We chose ours last week hehe :D was more a case of getting working around h2b work schedule and the venue also deciding this is definitely what we want!

Its a good idea once you have definitely said yes we are doing this thing to go to those venues and see what's available.. Can be booked up like 18 months before for Saturdays usually more options Sunday to Friday.

Very best of luck and happy planning

Thanks Sparklez and congrats on settin your date :)

The second he agrees his feet won't touch the ground haha. I have read about venues booking up so if he agrees to next December then we will have to get it figured out pretty quick. Good luck with all your planning xx

We were around 16-18 months planning. We lived together for a long time too, so there was no rush. We wanted it right, rather than wanting it soon.....does that make sense? and wanting what we wanted costs money....and as we were in no rush, took it slowly and paid for things as we went along. Doing it this way I didnt get Bridezilla-ish......and I didnt frighten the hell out of H2B........which I think is easy to do if you go at it like a bull in a china shop......
(I am not saying YOU are)

For the record.......I wanted a winter wedding too, but H2B wanted summer so we went with what he wanted, and then all the planning was mine to do , which I wanted.

I really wanted a winter wonderland wedding....(Lion Witch & Wardrobe, with fur coats at the entrance for people to walk through) I had so many ideas and then he said he wanted SUMMER.......GRRRRRR!

Thanks RaggedyAnne. I am going at it like a bull in a China shop in my head at the minute I know I am. I am the sort of person who needs to have everything straight in my head when planning so I tend to do this with most things in my life and when it actually comes to organising I can get it done methodically if that makes sense.

I have seen your piccies in the making things thread and although you didn't get your winter wedding I think it is going to be amazing with all your fantastic handy work. Good luck xx

Thank you so much, but I cant help but be a little bit jealous of a winter wedding......
Ah well, theres always a vow renewal I suppose?

I admit I am a bit bull-like.......which is how I ended up with more dresses than you can shake a stick at!

2 days after me and my h2b 'discussed' the wedding we had a meeting with the vicar and a viewing of our (ok, my) favourite venue and had agreed on a date! We worked out a budget after and realised that realisticly we couldn't afford to do it for a couple more years so are now getting married on 30th August 2014. So we have plenty of time to plan, but for me it is too much. I am a very organised person and am getting fed up of having to wait to buy and sort certain things. And I think your idea of a Xmas wedding would be lovely! Even better if you could have real snow!! Good luck 'discussing' with h2b! And have a good holiday! xxxx

I found with my H2B that I just had to decide when we were getting married but then try and make it seem like it was his idea! We set our date 2 weeks ago for July 2013 less than a year. And whilst I'm thinking there is so much to do in so little time, he keeps on telling me too chill out we've got a year to sort it out! I think he reckons you can just pull a wedding together the week before! We're doing it overseas in Cyprus so a lot of the hassle is being taken care of by our wedding planner but I still have lists everywhere of all the stuff that needs to be done!

Just get him sat down and pin him to a date, you can do it!

We only gave ourselves about 9 months, because we are both horribly disorganised. We had already talked over most things over the course of two years or so, meaning we just need to nail everything down and pay for it.

Those are the same dates we're planning on as well hahah. I think we'll end up going for april 2014 thouggh, the venue weve chosen is pretty expensive, so we're guinna have to put it back, but like raggedyanne, we'd much rather have it right, than soon, ultimately, I dont think there's any rush... though after 6 and a half years engaged Id be kicking off haha.

In my case, its the boy getting carried away, he was dead set for having it next year, but I put my foot down, said there was no way we'd save up enough in time, he finally saw the light a couple of weeks ago, we viewed the venue today, we just need to get some dates from the registrar and get it booked :)
