Before i i start moaning iv got to say we have got a fab deal with our venue, were having a carvery at 15 pounds a head and no corkage fee but the venue never get back to us with our questions. Iv asked for a contract which they said they dont normally do but will pop one together for us which was four months ago and still no sign of it. Then we asked about a light buffet a month ago only to be fobbed off and when my partner spoke to the manager and politely asked if he had a got a quote together for us, he was rather rude and said he had stuff to do for xmas first and would let us know when he got round to it! not very happy and debating biting the bullet and finding another venue but it looks like were gonna have to spend a lot more :( rant over lol xx

It does sound like they are messing you around hun, have you not got anything to confirm what you've booked at the venue? x

Hmm they do sound very unprofessional, I would be worried too.
I would send an email saying you are quite dissatisfied with the service and point out when you have tried to contact them. I can't believe they don't do contracts.
Is it a hotel? Because it sounds like they are going to mess you about. I would email them and see what they say xx

Hmm... it's a tough one. Maybe write them a stern (but in a nice polite way) email and express your concern that you may have to find a venue who are more cooperative with your needs. Especially since you're paying for a service they're not providing. If the manager isn't the owner, then maybe it's worth doing a bit of research into who owns the venue and contacting them? I'm sure the owner will be disappointed to hear they are employing an incompetent manager. If he's stressing over Christmas already then god bless him when it gets nearer the time! xx

Sounds like there taking the p*** if I was you I would phone and say you want to come see the manager about a wedding ( don't mention u have already spoke about urs just make out like ur a new customer) then when they give u appoint go in and say that u want the contract before u leave otherwise you are going with your other venue who is willing to do u contract and sort a light buffet outfit you. Don't mention price just mention that u have other options. Will hopefully kick them into action to sort ur contract out. And if they aren't willing to do it for ur there n then and answer ur question when u go in how will u be able to trust them on the day? If I was u I'd want it in writing or would go somewhere else even if it's slightly more expensive least ur be able to trust they'll do what u want and what u are paying for x
nope ellie kitty, they were really reluctant to give us anything other than a receipt for our deposit with the date and wedding on it. Gutted i didn't stick to my guns straight away. Its a really good deal but without a contract theres nothing to stop them putting the prices up at last minute so just not sure wiether to cough up and pay for a more expensive venue xx
CommentAuthorTori
If they won't provide you with a contract have you considered doing one and getting them to sign it? You could then cut out all the cr@p that most venues put in and just ensure it states the info you need in it x
CommentAuthorSam
Good idea ^^^^ Sounds like they are so cheap because they've cut staff costs. The manager really shouldn't be handling special events. This would worry me when it comes to the day
CommentAuthorleah
thank you !!!!! i was really starting to think it was just us being funny and getting paranoid. I think were gonna start looking at other venues first so we can go in forearmed and cancel if we need to eeekk!!!! Hopefully, they'l pull their fingers out and we'll get what we want. Good point though Samantha i hadnt even thought about that but he did say something to rob about keeping the kitchen open for the buffet because we originally asked for bacon sandwiches, you have hit the nail on the head xx

My venue have done the same, we've got 'an amazing wedding package' as its called, and we have paid a deposit, and just recieved a letter stating that we have paid the deposit and the date is secure, I dont have a contract to state that we are deffiently getting the amazing wedding package they offer or anything, but recently have emailed to ask about decoratin the room, as the meeting we are supposed to have isnt until feb! I get married 2months later, so thats too short notice to order flowers then! They do email back, so im never left hanging, but sometimes I do feel a bit anxious about everything being solid with them, so I will go in and ask if we could have a letter written up with everything that we will get and signed next wednesday! xxxx
CommentAuthorShazk
This isnt good news and I hope you do either find a new better venue or they do infact get their finger out their a**e.
I cant belive places dont o contract surely it covers both you and them so why wouldnt they do one?? Is you venue and independant or chain? If a chain I would look at contacting someone higher and not at the hotel, I would try and do everything via Email or wrighting for anything you have to contact them about and that way you will have a trail!!
Why do places not understand how big a day a wedding day is and that we could all do without this extra worry xx

Thanks for all your comments, Mrs Brammer no its an independent company so we cant go any higher :(, and yeah Mrs Wearn' i would def do it, wish id done something sooner. On the plus side though we've found some lovely venues that arent that much more expensive, just means compromising on other things. Is anyone having a friday wedding? we are just wondering how much haggling power it gives you? xx
CommentAuthorDolliDagger
You are braver than me hun, i loved a venue when i first started looking it was ideal, and they didn't get back to my five emails and two phone calls for only a week and when i got a reply it was a bit narky so i crossed them off, yet other venues cant do enough to help x ope all goes well xx

I'm having a Friday wedding too, unfortunately they are getting more common so there is less haggling power there than there used to be....however, we did get a few freebies thrown in!
I'm like dollidagger, we emailed a few venues and some we discounted because the tone of their response was like we we inconveniencing them...luckily the 'one' that I had wanted from the start were fantastic, really enthusiastic and couldn't do enough to help even though they are a fairly popular venue xx

I have got a great wedding package and I booked my venue way back around May. I have paid dep and some off the amount. I have phone them a few times with questions , some that are really stupid and have always been able to speak to the owner and he has been fab. He makes time to talk to me. Has allowed me to go to the venue ince they had set up for another wedding and take photo's to show my family. He said I can take family etc with me anytime to looke around , I just have to give notice incase they have a function. He has made me and my H2B feel comfortable and like nothing is too much trouble. I did fill out a contract for them and have a letter to say my date is booked and I have paid my deposit. I also get receipts everytime I pay some off. I feel I am lucky to have found them as they are taking away alot of the stress. I hope you get better service than you are getting now but it sounds as though you need to look for a new venue. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted.

Just to give you all an update, we went to see another venue on sat and they were fantastic, lovely customer service, they were obliging in every way! we our going to try some of the dishes on the menu ( complimentary of course) and number crunch with them but were both really happy and will probably book with them, AND SIGN A CONTRACT lol! I was at the old venue on sat night for an event and the manager didnt even acknowledge me even though he'd made eye contact so i will be very happy when we cancel with them! They really arent bothered so its there loss! xx

we did go armed with a deposit but the management were fantastic and want us to sample the food first and sit down with him and the wedding coordinator. The prices are within budget but we'd be happier if we could get them a bit lower so fingers crossed it will be all booked next time we go! xx
