I have a BIG VENUE TIP!!!!!- we found our dream venue (i have loved this place for years but never thought i would ever be able to afford it) We worked out roughly what we would expect to pay for glasses of wine, sparkling wine, meal, buffet etc etc per head and totted it up, it came to around £4k. I put this to the wedding co ordinator and after speaking with the owner, she said they could do what we wanted for £4500 but it had to be monday, tuesday or wednesday. This didnt matter to us as who cares what day you get married on anyway and if you give guests pleanty of notice they can book they day off!
If we had just paid the normal prices it would have been £115- £150 per head or exclusivity hire of the whole castle was something like £30k!!!
ANOTHER TIP IF YOU HAVEN'T BOOKED YOUR WEDDING DAY YET!!!!!! MONDAY 4TH JUNE 2012!! It is a bank holiday and you get the Tuesday off to due to it being the Queen's Jubilee. Venues dont seem to know this as ours said we couldnt have bankholiday mondays............... WE DO NOW!!! They had no idea, neither did the photographer or registrar!!!!
So if you find a venue that has great weekday deals or, like us, you can get ot alot cheaper on a weekday, DO IT! 04/06/12!!
We are also using CAKE as DESERT. I have been to loads of weddings where it gets left and lets face it cake is expensive! We are saving £8 pr head by not having a desert and just getting them to bring the cut cake (after photos) to the table!

Any one wondered about the VAT increase?? I work for a huge multinational company and I know that most companies claim VAT back - the only people it hits really is the consumer - how about asking them told hold the VAT??

When we asked about the VAT increase they said we would pay the vat NOW as this is when we have booked it :-) But its gonna be 20% or something stupid isnt it??

I have put up venue pics on profile! We asked about price increases but we made sure that the price we agreed would stay the same. Make sure you read your contract and once you sign it there is no going back. We also kept all emails and things that said the price would remain the same. As we got it at such a discounted price the owner had to sign the contract too so thats extra reassurence. We have also aggreed with our photographer that the price will be the price it is now and wont change with VAT increase. I have spoken to a lot of compnaies and if you book and pay the deposit now you pay the price it is now. Make sure you gett a contract. We found this out too at a wedding fayre yesterday with a compnay that custom make rings. If we choose the design and pay the deposit, the price will be the same no matter of VAT increase or if price of metal increases. We pay the balanve when the rings are ready or when we need them! EXCELLENT!! xx I work as a sales manager so im planning to book most things before the VAT increase to avoid extra costs !!!! xx
My Dad thinks I should not bother looking at anything until next May (1yr prior to Wedding) But my mum is slowly coaxing him - he's a business man and all about saving money so the Vat is a great barganing chip with him tbh and me and mum being able to start planning straight away - I booked the church in Thursday (only mum and rich knowing) told my Dad yesterday bless him he looked shocked but when I said we were paying the deposit for it he settled a bit - goodness knows how much he thinks the deposit is like lol :D

Haha! I suppose it depends what your venue is like and if you want it in peak season. The venues we were lokking at said they were filling up for July and August weekends 2012 already (not that it mattered to us as we needed a weekday)! My h2b Ben thought that looking and booking so early was silly but when he realised that they start getting booked up 2-3 years in advance then he came round to the idea. He also likes the idea of saving money on VAT by booking now too! Start looking raekim84 its soooo fun!! :)
